JHP trial in RAMI
« on: June 07, 2020, 09:15:00 PM »
Finally had the chance to test out some hollow points yesterday.  Well, my RAMI BD did not like the  124 gr Federal HST rounds. Had 2 failure to feed situations occur with the 14 round mag on the 3rd magazine and 1 with the 10 round on the 2nd mag. Cleaned the feed ramp and gave the gun and magazines a quick wipe inside and out so as to start on "level ground".  Then I switched over to Hornady 115 gr Critical Defense. Didn't have an issue the rest of my range time. 125 rounds in both mags. They were accurate and consistent at 25-50 ft. I will run another 100 rounds through both magazines and then should feel comfortable enough to carry this beauty.  The pistol is really accurate and fun to shoot. As others have said before me, with the 14 round mag it feels and shoots like a full sized pistol. Would like to be able to say that it eats anything as all my other pistols have, but....Take care all!

This is my experience with RAMI  and jhp ammo, and I fired in excess of 5000 rounds through two of them.
Being relatively short barrel firearm, it does not like any cartridge with a round ojive bullet. "ojive" is a bullet profile. Consequently , Remington,PMC, some Winchester and some Federal rounds with a rounded bullet profile will likely cause FTF. Hornady uses XTP bullets with a slimmer profile, more like a cone. These do not hang on the feed ramp but slide right into the chamber.
That is the only ammo I ever use for my EDC gun.
Fiocchi uses XTP bullets for their extrema ammo which is cheaper than Hornady.

Same experience here. I just did a small test of JHP in my new Rami BD. Sig crown and gold dot, and had constant jams with both 10 and 14 round mags. Hornady critical defense I had zero jams.

I did discuss the jamming issue of JHP with CZ warrenty and here is what they said:

Good afternoon, Our chambers are tight for accuracy, so some heavier grain ammunition may have issues sticking in the chamber throat.  If you would like, we can bring the firearm in and cut the chamber throat deeper for using those larger ogive bullets however this may slightly reduce accuracy with standard ammunition.

In my limited experience 124 is often problematic in guns smaller than compact (micro/sub compact).

I to believe it’s the bullet shape and the feed ramp geometry required to get to that size. Interestingly enough 147s and 115s seem to be fine in my smaller guns.

I’ll run 124s in compact and full size just fine though.

As to the chamber size-I don’t know as when I have a problem with 124s in a micro they hang on the ramp and don’t make it to the chamber to find out.
