Getting back to the original subject, I wonder why CZ did not just machine out the left side of the frame to be able to use an SP01/Shadow mag release button? They did the right side! Even my 75D Compact has the extended type from factory. My 97BD is a '19 model.

Yep, I run one on my 97.  Its nothing more than the SP01 mag release.  The SP01 uses the "8" shaped release, whereas the 97 uses the "0", so you need to grind off the extra material and fit it or just call CGW.

You can also run the Sp01 slide release on the 97.

The SP01 slide release has different shaped head on the slide catch vs the 97. The stock 97 slide release has a bigger chamfer on it. Has this had any effects on the function of the 97?

Ive done zero mods to the SP01 slide release, had ZERO malfunctions with it installed.  Ive run 400 to 500 rounds since installing it, all reloads using 230 fmj, 230 lead, 200 rn, 185 flat nose plated.

I'm very tempted to take my stock one out, weld it up and drill/tap for the paddle.

Is the factory catch steel or aluminum? I'd be hesitant if it is aluminum. The filler material will be very soft and the entire part will anneal. I am hoping to make it to the shop to pick up my new 97 tomorrow, I'll drop a magnet on the catch to check it.

If it is steel, there's no reason not to. I'll be able to keep the heat down easier than welding aluminum. I can make a soft jaw to grab the catch, mill the top flat and locate the hole.

The hard part will be coughing up 35 bucks for the tiny CZ paddle... lol

The factory CZ75 variant Magazine Catch are all made of steel from what i have seen, this includes the alloy framed models. On another note, i believe that the factory S2 mag catch is not only screwed into place but also uses a separate pin to stop the paddle from rotating.

Have you considered fabricating a mag catch paddle? You could design in an anti rotation interface for the round CZ97 mag catch button.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I guessed it would be steel, but you never know for sure. Makes sense it would have a pin or a machined interlock pattern. I could make the paddle, but, 1) I want the anodize color to match and 2) single tiny piece anodizing is not economical and 3) I'm not sure I'm ready to build a CZ97B mag paddle empire lol

A fair point about the anodizing, i did not take that into consideration. I am thinking that you might still be able to incorporate a pin depending on how much material remains around the tapped hole for the scerw. I look forward to seeing how the project goes.

Who's got the best price on a red Shadow 2 mag release paddle? I'll need one to get started.

LOK grips has some made of G10 for ($15.00). The aluminum options that i have seen are all over ($30.00).

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing too. I bought a red TSO trigger from CZ for the sao conversion, and I'd like the paddle to match the trigger. Or perhaps black, like the grip panels.

I picked up my 97 today. Love it, although I'm glad I have the sao conversion on deck.

The mag catch is definitely steel. I had another idea to modify the 97 catch for a paddle.

Are the Tac Sport and Shadow 2 paddles the same? If yes I'll pull my orange one and use that as a guide.
