More P01 Omega Thoughts

Excellent pistol.  Fairly slim, decent trigger that is even easier to shoot than expected, now decent sights available, decent holsters, fairly light (yes under 28 oz), slim gripped (easier to conceal and easier to draw fast), accurate and reliable. 

The trigger on this gun was absolutely horrible OTB.  Disgusting and really not usable in DA.  Dissassembled and polished about 5 times and after attacking the rear of the TB where it slopes, was able to remove almost all stacking and it smoothed considerably.  Add about 500+ rounds and it is a pleasure to shoot.  It is accurate and easy to double tap - maybe easier than my P07.  In DA it still 'bumps' through its stages, but because of CGW magic and the smoothing I did, is now highly acceptable.  I love the decocker position and feel better than any other CZ.  I like that it fits multiple lights. 

I LOVE the new 15 rd mags by Mecgar which are a TON better than anything available including the big rubber on the OEM. 

Probably a tad esier to conceal than many guns its approximate size (P07, P30, P228, etc.) and still light enough to getrdone. 

I am liking the polycoat finish more than I expected (have it in a true hybrid Highnoon rig). 

Overall it is excellent and maybe my favorite right now.  Maybe not as durable as my P30, but certainly a good gun for just about anything defensive. 

But.. even after filing and polishing the SS is a PITA to get out - takes a tool.  You CAN use the NEW Mecgar bases or Beretta 92 bases, but NOT the OEM bases - you will chip up the finish - don't ask. 

Also, I would advise NOT to try to install the decocker spring without a tool.  See the gouge above the decocker.

Great review. Hard not to agree with everything you wrote.
I love my P01 Omega and use it as EDC.
I'm safety guy, so DA never bothered me. After polishing it's almost perfect handgun just behind Wilson Combat and STI.

I thought the safety was a tad hard to reach but I could make it work.  The decocker on this is SOOO much better than the standard model. 

I have no interest in carrying a SF gun now other than Kahr.  Like the long pull and REALLY consider placing my thumb on the hammer to holster as a huge advantage.

My slide stop removal tool is a standard US penny. Generally easy to find, cheap and the copper plated zinc won't scratch the finish.

To make SS easier to come out - file the pin a little between its end and notch.
No tools required to remove SS anymore

Kind of a sidetrack, but can you put the original flat metal base-plates on the 15rd mags? Can you put the +2 OEM extensions on the 15rd mags to get 17 total?

I think I've read that some members have filed that little notch on the right side of the slide stop shaft that the retention spring sits in.  They file the right side of the notch a little to change the angle so that the spring can move up out of the notch/groove easier vs. the factory shape of the notch.

My P07 moves out of the notch with a press from the corner of the plastic mag. base - but the slide stop shaft to barrel lug fit is so tight I have to wiggle the slide forward/rearward while pulling on the slide stop lever to slowly work it far enough to the left that it will finally come free and pull out of the frame (maybe one reason is shoots like it does.)

Neither of my P01 Omega pistols are that tight.

As per my OP I have filed the SS plenty with little improvement. I may try more.

I don’t think the flat mag bases work in the Mecgar anti friction mag tubes.  I will try my SW MP +2s in to try. I now consider the 16 round mag azine’s on the urban gray model to actually be a bad thing.  having 15 rounds in this flush fit configuration  is better than having 16 with those long extensions.

Update: Beretta/SIG plus 2 extensions work.  Tiny gap between extensions and grip bottom.

When I use the flat bases on the compact models I must bend the floor plate to be able to use them because my fingers are just too thick.

The one criticism I will have of the gun is that the front and rear saturations wow they look nice do you really nothing for your grip and it would be great if CZ updated this gun to make them checkering.  I just wonder if some custom Works place would add horizontal serrations and turn it into checkering.

had to remove the mag brake from mine because it was hanging up the mags from dropping. flat mag brake didnt help

I'm so lucky.  I bought the UG P01 Omega and it worked perfectly.

Then I heard all the commotion about the ones that had problems with the decocker levers coming loose.  No one seemed to know what the cause was, CZ was keeping quiet about it, some people figured out how to fix theirs in spite of what ever was causing the problem.

I ordered a black one in the hope I'd get one with a problem and maybe (shade tree mechanic stuff/methods) compare one to the other and figure out what was causing the problem.

Only my second one worked, too, so then I had two that worked great.

The UG needed a small amount of feed ramp polishing and worked perfectly after that.  The black one got a set of night sights.  I never got around to replacing the trigger return spring and firing pin block springs and firing pin retaining pins with the CGW versions to improve reliability.  I guess I need to order those parts and do it.  Did the P07s and P09s a couple years back.
