Joining the Kadet Club
« on: June 20, 2020, 09:19:09 AM »
With the cost and availability of 9mm ammo going all over the place I decided to order a Kadet kit for my Shadow 2 for training. Been doing a fair amount of reading here on the forums about feed and fit issues.

Any tips for a soon to be Kadet owner?

Also I have a Leupold DPP on my Shadow 2 and am looking for a cheap optic mounting option. Am I correct in thinking the Shadow dovetail mounting plates should work?

What weight hammer spring do you have in your Shadow 2?  If it is less than 17# then you can expect some misfires with the Kadet kit.

The firing pin hole, breech face, and chamber will get very dirty in a few hundred rounds.  Keep a dental pick handy to clean the breech face, extractor, and firing pin hole.

Just follow the instructions for installing, and it doesn't matter if the Kadet to frame rail fit is a little loose, you just don't want it too tight.

The magazines and Kadet conversion is really a first class .22 conversion kit.  I have around 50k rounds through mine.  I put a short piece of rail on the top of the slide and put an Ultradot sight on it for Bullseye.  I believe the dovetail mounts for the Shadow are the correct ones for the Kadet, if you want to go that route.

Keep an eye on the barrel retaining pin.  Replace it every 10k rounds or so.  That's about it.

Thanks for the info. I have the CGW Pro kit with the 13# mainspring installed. Looks like i'm gonna have to swap the Mainspring out. Does the Kadet kit come with a mainspring in it?

I don't believe any of the Kadet options include a mainspring, since they expect you to use the full-power factory original for the pistol.

I kept all the OEM parts so looks like that spring might have to go back in when running the Kadet. Thanks for the tip

The true beauty of a .22lr Conversion is cheap "Trigger Time" on your Host Frame
With that; you need the SAME Trigger Pull
By swapping Hammer Springs, back and forth, you've all but lost that aspect
Either leave the 17# Spring in or deal with any Fail to Fire issues caused by the 13# Spring, by "double tapping" it
Remember .... in most cases .... the Hammer Spring only affects the Double Action Trigger Pull
Not so-much the Single Action
So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what's coming after HIM !
