Flash hiders?
« on: July 07, 2020, 12:31:46 AM »
What does the group like for flash hiders?
I have a couple brakes and comps, but for training in close quarters I’d prefer a flash hider.
I really would love to have one of my YHM mounts for the 14x1 RH thread, but I haven’t found a way to do that. I’ve tried the thread adapter and it’s too clunky.

The best one, in my opinion, is the Special Forces two piece muzzle brake/flash hider combo. I really wouldn't want to use it in a CQB situation if I was working with a group. It still spits fireballs to the right and left. Your vision won't be impacted, but you'll still blind and deafen everyone else next to you.

If you are really serious about CQB with the vz. 58, go with the Dead Air Wolverine PBS-1 silencer instead, and use sub sonic ammo.

Czechpoint USA sells the YHM Phantom in 14x1 RH - they must custom order those from Yankee Hill. They’re popular and go out of stock often but with notification when they’re back in stock.

Otherwise, the CNC Warrior 14x1 RH adaptor is pretty small and unobtrusive to convert to muzzle devices of other thread sizes. I use one successfully for a Manticore night brake on my Vz58 since Manticore refuses to thread any of their products in 14x1 RH.

Love the YHM Phantom that came stock on my VZ58 CQB. Neither I nor any of my friends who have shot it and then observing each other shoot have ever noticed any visible flash whatsoever. We can’t say the same for my AKM w/slant brake, however!  LOL

The Phantom flash hider is excellent.  It also reduces muzzle rise as the POI at 50 yards is several inches lower than using nothing.  The best device I've used to reduce muzzle rise is the Knurled Compensator, although it is extremely loud and produces a giant fireball.  I'm with you that flash suppression is more important.  It takes just a little more concentration using the Phantom to get the same size groups as with using the Knurled Compensator.  Up close, the difference in accuracy likely wouldn't make a difference, and shooting further out requires more concentration anyway.

It seems that most places are out of stock of the Phantom in M14x1 RH, but plenty have the LH version.  CNC has an adapter in stock for a reasonable price.  Their shipping is also very reasonable.

Those are the 14" barreled guns w/ the longer version?

Yes, saw Czechpoint sells their versions of the Phantom now is both short/standard and long/rifle-legal length options.  No experience w/ Czechpoint's offerings, but the CNCW is quite nice.  Given price-point, I have to assume it's not officially licensed from YHM...

Personally, I'd rather go pistol w/ brace or rifle with stock right now than pistol-length w/ fixed muzzle device BUT given recent history the BATF will eventually ban some to all pistol braces, so there's that...

And absolutely -- once you get into the comp world, the foreign offerings really open up options from SF Brake to Zendl righthand and lefthand comps to various true brakes coming from Czech and Slovak manufacturers in a variety of lengths and designs.

I do still have SF Brakes available.  Per the mods' advisement, here's the link to my classifieds listing: https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=110643

Considering a group buy for some shorter double baffle brakes early next year...  This thread isn't really the place, but PM me if an interest -- believe I found a source for the baffle brake used by Polenar Tactical's Manca that some have inquired about previously...

Yessir! Pics of it beside my PSAK-47 and then, a PSA 7.62x39 AR that I just recently sold off:

FYI, Carolina shooters supply has some phantoms in stock. I don’t know if they are the same ones Czechpoint sells but the model number is cncw-phantom. I just ordered one so I’ll post when I get it.

Thanks for the info! @ $20 that’s about half of what Czechpoint is charging, even if you have to go through CSS’s kludgy website.

It is a pain.  It took me 3 times to check out.

That's basically what CNCW used to charge...  Regardless, imagine how much Czechpoint is over-billing on their rifles!

That's the EXTENDED version that Czechpoint includes on their CQBs.

NOT the standard length version, which they also sell but is out of stock right now:

https://www.czechpoint-usa.com/vz-58-phantom-flash-hider/product

Despite Czechpoint's effective if not real monopoly often feeling like highway robbery, I'd prefer to save that 1/4-1/2" if I had a 16"+ gun and spend a little more over attempting to mod the cheaper CSS one.

Don't get me wrong -- there's zero reason as far as I'm concerned that CNCW shouldn't sell these direct from them in the first place, but since they removed all of them across all thread pitches from their site, they likely got a cease and desist from YHM if not outright sued by them...  So maybe we should be grateful that the found an compliant workaround?

Im not too Concerned about that little extra length. Especially considering that big giant brake that came on my vz from Czechpoint. I didn’t buy it to be a cqb weapon.

I wish yhm would just sell the bleep things in 14x1 RH.  I would really like their smooth end flash hider.

Yeah, I’ve been bugging them for years to make me a suppressor mount in 14x1 RH.
