*sigh* I am too old, because it is just too hot
« on: July 12, 2020, 06:22:36 AM »
:'( 115 degrees outside and I just can't hang shooting in the sun like I used to. I was going to sneak a little time in with all the junk going on, and when I stepped into the Arizona broiler...that was the end of that. This is why A/C was invented. Oh well. I have to get out soon, trigger finger is all rusted up...

It was 107 (truck thermometer, 102 in the shade house thermometer) here and humid, so we stayed in most of the day.  But I don't go to the local outdoor range on weekends anyway.

I'd feel sorry for you but I spent some time in the Middle East in the summers, so my frame of reference is a little different (120+).

I’d take that dry 115 Arizona temp than the 97 degree Florida temp with 100 % humidity. I was about to go to the range and practice for next Saturday’s USPSA match but decided it’s to hot and humid. I just stayed home and watched the F1 race.

fwiw,

when i was younger, the extremes didnt bother me as much.  I could ride the horses in the winter with snow on the ground and it balling up in their hooves, or in the summer time when it was hot and we both were sweating.

now that im older im less tolerant of the extremes.  Its just something i keep in mind when i do things or where i go or want to go.

I worked outdoors for years. It was only after it got above 115 that I thought it was bad. Now I’m older and not acclimated to it so 105 is my cutoff. Normally I hit an indoor range during the summer, but decided to wait until the possibility of COVID-19 infection tapers off.

I know exactly where you’re coming from Armoredman. I was born and raised in Southeast Texas so 95-103 degrees and 100% humidity are just part of the summer southern charm... ;D But for a short time I lived in Phoenix, AZ while attending MMI for their Harley Davidson program and the heat, though dry, was unbelievable. 110-115 degrees outside temps but we measured the temp of the asphalt at 134 degrees one day. O0 On several occasions when class let out we’d walk outside to find a motorcycle or two laid over in the parking lot because the asphalt was so hot the kickstand would sink in. They would actually warn folks to put a pad down for the kickstand.

Actually, I can relate - Persian Gulf, '88, Operation Preying Mantis. THAT was hot indeed. Guys in the Main Space had to work 20 minutes inside. 40- minutes on the mess deck in what we laughingly called AC.

I can remember playing tennis when it was 114 F (Del Rio, TX) when I was a teenager.  We noticed the pavement was really hot when we stepped out on it and after that I guess our feet got used to it and we just sweated it out till we were done and went to the pool.

Not as bad as the high temps (near, but still not above 100 F) and high humidity at Ft. Myer, VA I went through in the mid to late 70's.  And we wore winter blues/greens because they held a press better than the summer weight uniforms.  Just nasty.

Now I'm 63.  Overweight (not as bad as I was a couple years ago) and out of shape (again, not as bad as I was a couple years ago) and the heat and humidity around here gets the best of me pretty quickly on those nasty days - and I'm wearing shorts, a t-shirt and mesh/vented shoes and staying in the shade as much as I can.

Took the 10 year olds (nephews kids) to state park lake to play in the water/sand on Tuesday.  I sat on a chair under a big oak tree in the shade.  1030 AM nice cool breeze blowing through the area.  At 1145 (I know, I looked at my watch as the change got my attention) the cool breeze turned to a warm breeze.  I don't know the temperature change in degrees/numbers, I just know the difference was obvious and got my attention.  I sat in that chair through lunch and another 2 hours after that and sweated it wet by the time they were wore out enough to say it was time to go home.

Dry heat and dry cold is better.  Or at least my decades old memories say it is.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Dry heat IS better...and in the mid 70s I was a kid learning to hate fondue, leisure suits, and disco... ;D
