Hey everyone! Been out of the game for a while (deployed out of the states for almost 2 years) so I am a little behind on the times.... I am looking for the best magazines currently available. I have an original Scorpion SBR from when they first came out and had issues with the cracked feed lips. About 2 years ago I got on the 32 round mags with the metal feed lips and I had double feeds with them probably 10 out of 500 rounds. Just enough to make me want to look elsewhere....

I see that Magpul finally released a magazine for the Scorp, is this the go to magazine now?

No issues with the new windowed mags from CZ but they are a little harder to find now.

Magpul 35 rds worked great in both of mine.  Just like other versions of PMAG (AR/AK/Glock) these are solid and relatively cheap.

PSA AKV mags - Some of the earlier generations dropped free but you can slightly modify any to drop free out of your Scorpion.  I got a few older mags and they are flawless.

I've been running Magpul and Manticore mags primarily with couple CZ factory mags
with 100% reliabilty,  I have tried 2 of the PSA mags that gave nothing but problems
and I sent them back and received 2 new ones with same, feeding issues mostly,
I sent them back to PSA.  Bottom line what works for you stay with them ....

Two of the more recent smoked 30 round magazines cracked feed lips (both time in competition settings). I have one left but said the heck with it and bought several of the Manticore mags. So far no trouble at the range...

I would stick with PSA.  Biggest bang for the buck and no functionality feed problems like manticores. IHMO

Are the two PSA 30 round mags #11350 and #11355 (windowed) identical in material and design, except for the windows?  Is there any difference in reliability when used with an S1 or S2 Micro?
Thanks,
Tad Danley

Thanks,

Should be, I use the non window PSA mags in my S1 exclusively. And love em.

I have had no issues with my two 20 rd cz mags or my two 30 rd manticore Mags. My issue is getting mags to drop free when the bolt hold open is active after the last round. The bolt applies just enough tension keeping the mags from dropping free.

So where is everyone sanding their mag to allow for them to drop free? Pics would be nice

Thanks.

I've had zero issues with the newer CZ mags, with Magpul mags and with PSA mags (although the PSAs don't drop free without a little sanding).

Me too!

I have OEM, Manticore and PSA. PSA were dirt cheap before the madness, they needed sanded to make them drop free. Sanding involved the rectangular raised portion on the front and near the top of the mag. Sand and test sand and test until you get the desired drop free operation. Just sand the block down as even as you can. I used a random orbital while secured in a vice. 5 mins per mag. The first one is where you learn how much effort is involved. I used a red 120 grit Norton multi surface, made quick work of the spot. By the way, all worked as advertised. The only loading problems I have ever had with my Skorp is with some lead nosed reloads I was using at an indoor range that jammed up hard.

Even the term "drop free" is a misnomer when you are speaking of the Skorp. They will not drop free when the last round hold open is in effect. If you manually lock the bolt open then yes, they will drop free. If not, you got to push the release and strip them out. It does not work like an AR where you push and they drop or you do the Chris Costa flip.

I think people who buy a Scorpion and then complain about the lack of "drop-free" mags, as though it is some sort of fault or design-shortcoming of the gun, need to do a little homework and get a better understanding of the actual history of the Scorpion (and sub-guns in general, apparently). Expecting it to run just like an AR is like expecting a Glock to have the same MOA as a P226, and then complaining because the latter has a decocker. It's not a shortcoming of the Scorpion - it's how it was designed and intended to be used, and it's really no big deal to train to strip the mag and reload quickly at all; unless you are someone who mistakenly bought a Scorpion thinking it was going to be a direct crossover training tool for your AR, in which case, you probably should have done that homework before purchasing, rather than complaining about it after the fact.
