CZ 83 7.65mm / 32acp Diet

I have had full success with 1200 rounds in my CZ 83 7.65x17mm (aka 32ACP) with Fiocchi, S&B, Geco.  I recently picked up some Herters and PPU 71 g, I believe.  Has anyone tried either of these in their CZ's and what success or failures did you have?

The only problems I have had with the CZ 70 was Federal Classic, slide wouldn’t close fully all the time. The cases have a crimp with a bulge in the middle, they are pretty old so I’m not sure what the deal is but they still work, for the most part

When I joined a number of members recommended FMJ's to aid feeding. I only use Fiocchi .32ACP 73 GR FMJ. Fiocchi and S&B are loaded hotter than US manufacture. It has been stated S&B have "harder" primers - no personal experience. The below is an interesting read.

By Herter's, do you mean old Herter's or new Herter's? Up until a year or so ago, the brass cased Herter's was made by S&B. Now it is made by Winchester.

For European pistols, feed them European 7.65 Br instead of US .32 Auto. There are small difference in the dimensions of the rim and extractor groove.

I just bought the ammo so I imagine it is the new Herter's.  I have all European ammo except for the 300 rounds of Herter's.  I did not thing about the purchase since I am grabbing whatever ammo I can find.  I bought the Herters for range practice.

Does PPU, Fiocchi, and Geco also have hard primers like S&B?

I've used a bunch of Geco, in 9mm, in a gun with light springs and had no issues with reliability.

Not exactly what you asked for, but as an aside....

I've been reloading 7.65x17mm (32ACP) using VV N310 and Berry Mfg 71gr RN plated bullets. I have also tried some 78gr RN coated from T&B, and some 85gr JHP from Hornady. Of all those, the lighter bullets seemed to shoot better. I'm getting fantastic results.

Groups like this at 10 yards are common...


And my son does even better. For scale, the back bull is 2.3" in diameter.

George Herter built an outdoors empire, starting around 1935 in Waseca MN.
Many Herter’s products, including his decoys, game calls and gun stocks, were considered top-quality and fair-priced.
Herter's is still remembered for its unusual and expansive catalogs which advertised all manner of gun, hunting, camping and fishing gear. Later catalogs were 500-700 pages.
I don't believe Herter's manufactured anything - they either had it built for them on contract or they bought someone else's product and rebadged/relabeled it. Some items in the catalog that weren't even purchased. He would just keep the money until there was enough interest, then order the items and ship them. Now it might take a while, but you usually received the item or your money back.
By 1981 the company was going under and circumstances, which forced into bankruptcy. Herter's was sold to the Chicago firm that liquidated everything. Eventually Cabela’s has purchased the rights to the Herter’s Name and trademarks.

I ordered a shotgun stock from them. The wood was premium grade (AAA), but the work for final fit-up was more than I anticipated. Not having proper tools didn’t help – young and quite foolish. My catalog below was lost during single to married transition move(s).

I shot 500 rounds of Herter's 9mm in my M11 A1 without any problems.  I will have to see how it goes in my CZ 83

Herter's is used by Cabela's as the name for their house brand ammo (among other things). Brass cased Herter's handgun ammunition was made by S&B (and said so right on the box) up until very recently, when that changed to Winchester as the manufacturer.

Steel cased rifle ammo was sourced from Russia and shotgun shells were Italian. Haven't looked recently to see if that is still true.
