backorders on Precision Delta
« on: September 07, 2020, 07:40:24 PM »
I went to Precision Deltas PD, website today to order some of my dearly loved 9mm 124gr JHPs and much to my surprise I was unable to order.  I understand "out of stock", but could not see a way to order so I would get "in line" so the order could be filled when available.  This is distressing as I only reload these and have had zero problems shooting 1000s at many matches.
Anyone else experienced this?  Seems like they would still take an order even when out of stock, but saw no way to place in "cart".

I am addicted to these bullets as I have used for years.

RMR 124gr "Match Winners" are very good and shipping in 6-7 weeks. They also load to about the same OAL, possibly reducing your testing time.

welcome,

Im sure what you think and believe is how you are.  But you need to see the business side of things.

you say you want to order to put a bookmark in line.  have you ever considered calling the company to find out why you cant have it your way?

I understand what you are saying and what you want, but there are many reasons why they dont what this.  but why not contact them and see what they way.  Everyone has an opinion and can guess too.

good luck

Called 2x no luck, Emailed 2x they got back saying they would let you know via newsletter.  Definitely not upset or bothered, just disappointed.
Wobbly, thanks for suggestion, I may try them out.

I don't blame them at all. If they take your order, they are also confirming a price. What if they can't produce and ship for X months, but in the meantime the price of lead and bullet jackets doubles. They can't go back and ask for more money, they have confirmed a price by accepting your order.

By doing it your way, they could spend the next several months shipping product for free (actually, under their cost to manufacture). Which might/could put them out of business.

So given the choice, would you rather eventually have the opportunity to order your favorite bullets, or never again have your favorite bullets ??

I called last month after receiving the 2 cases of 124 Gr JHP asking why there’s no way to order additional bullets. The guy I spoke to said they have to fulfill back orders first before opening up for new orders again. He also said that it might be awhile.

It took almost five weeks for my most recent order to arrive. Ordered on July 9 and received it on August 14.

I only use their JHPs on my comped guns to prevent leading when using FMJ bullets.

I ordered a case of 9 mm FMJ in mid-June ... still have not received, so they must have a mountain of backorders they are still working through.

Wow! Give them a call to let them know.

The match winners do look good, but have exposed bases so no go for some.
I think I will try the match winners though and use them for cheaper plinking stuff and just bury the last box of PDs I have until the storm breaks.

Their M1 carbine bullets are GTG, I'll be getting some more of them.

And a question while we are at it.

Considering the FMJ pistol rounds, it seems they are swaged into the jacket shape then filled with lead. By that thinking, one "end" would always need to be open. Hollow points have open tips but closed bases. The matchwinners have open bases but closed tips. Is this a standard rule? Is there a way to make a fully encase jacketed bullet (not machined)? It seems the effort would offset the cost.

The match winners are still considered FMJ. Montana Gold offers Complete Metal Jacket (CMJ) bullets in which the base is fully covered.

Several vendors offer Totally Enclosed or Completely Enclosed bullets. Hornady simply calls them "FMJ", but as you can see from their cutaway, the lead is totally encased.

Then there are the "thick plated" bullets that behave more like FMJ than "plated".

Those are good if your barrel has been teamed and allows you to load long. It has a blunt/fat profile preventing it from being loaded long for unreamed CZ barrels.

I tried it before but since I can load the PD 124 JHP longer than the RMR for my shadow 2, I decided to just use PD 124 JHP.

barrel reamed. 4k OTW. Be sure to check back daily...
This seemed like the closest to the 124PDs that i could reasonably get/find in stock.
Other main premium FMJ ~124 bullets for consideration were MG and Zero.
