Question regarding pinned/welded faux suppressor?
« on: September 19, 2020, 09:09:20 PM »
So I live in the communist state of Massachusetts. I’m looking at buying a Scorpion soon and I’m looking for some info. Mass requires that the faux suppressor on the Scorpion Evo 3 S1 to be pinned and welded. Looking at the gun online (because I can’t actually get my hands on one)it looks like once the suppressor or even a compensator is welded on it will be impossible to get the barrel nut off to remove the barrel because the barrel nut tool won’t go over the can or a compensator.

Am I correct or can you still get it off somehow?

Thanks

Are you looking at the pistol or carbine version? They have been sold in several different configurations in either platform.
The HBI handguard doesn't require a barrel nut and would be able to clear everything assuming you can find one with it already installed or have an FFL install it.

Does Mass have an issue with the barrel shroud itself or barrel length on a pistol?

It’s the carbine with the faux can. Problem is it can’t have a threaded barrel.. if it does the muzzle device needs to be pinned and welded. So the faux can needs to be welded on.

I forgot how unreasonable and senseless regulations can be. But yeah you are correct, that the handguard wouldn't be removable with out removing the barrel nut and faux suppressor.
With HBI, Manticore and Midwest handguards you'll have enough clearance for the suppressor. It's been awhile since I've looked so there might be more or different options available also.

I would order the scorpion with the muzzle brake, not the faux suppressor shroud. Then they can weld that in place. I think you'd be much happier with that.

I have the one with the faux suppressor shroud, and its a pain. It loosens up as you shoot it. I've loc tite it, but it still loosens up. I ordered the muzzle brake from CZ and will be putting that on my Scorpion.
