Questions on CGW and the Shadow2 Orange.
« on: October 02, 2020, 11:46:52 PM »
I just purchased a used S2O and was wondering if getting the 75800 Shadow S-2 Kit was the way to go or if the Shadow 2 Upgrade Kit with Reach Reduction was the better option. I know the Orange version of the S2 has some type of trigger reduction already. Was wondering if the CGW reduction version is smoother or reduces travel more. My reasoning for even wanting to do anything to the pistol was due to another forum post I found saying that most internal springs should be treated as consumable items. Since I got the gun used I figured that I should replace most of the "consumable" components. I'm also not sure if the first kit will work because of the reduction system that comes with the S2O. I will be sending an e-mail to CGW but figured I could get a quicker response from this forum with less bias about the product. If the Shadow 2 Upgrade Kit with Reach Reduction brings the trigger closer to the wall I would be happy with that even though it is close already. Also getting the trigger closer to 2# sounds nice as well. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Sorry If this is in the wrong place or there are other threads relating to the topic, I did try to search for some before hand. I have been shooting for about 3 years but am new to owning firearms so any tips for maintenance or upgrading is appreciated.

I know it’s not what you asked but I’ll recommend the following depending on how many rounds had been fired thought it.

- clean and lubricate everything that needs to be lubricated
- replace recoil spring if over 3-5k rounds
- shoot it and worry about upgrades later

Thank you for the reply! When I first got the pistol I cleaned and lubed everything. I have put 500 rounds thru it so far and have no problems. I am worried about asking the wrong questions as well so if there is anything off with my thought process please let me know.

Are you going to use the pistol for competition?

If I were you, I’ll keep it stock and use the money for the RRK and buy more Doesn’t really need anything out of the box except ammo.

By the way, what weight is the recoil spring? Are you shooting factory ammo or your reloads?

Congrats on a very fine pistol.

You would be wasting money with the cgw rrk. I have a standard shadow urban grey and a shadow orange. The urban grey has the full pro kit, the orange has the ultra lite kit, the floating trigger pin, and reduced power return spring. They are almost identical as far as the feel of the lock work. I just called and asked at cajun what upgrade parts they put in the “cajun” version they sell, and that’s what I bought. [emoji631][emoji41][emoji106]

Thanks for the responses everyone, I want to get into competitions but because of the ammo shortage and covid I don't think I'll be doing anything this year.

Even though you bought the S2O "used", that doesn't mean much as far as use.  A significant number of guns are purchased and never shot - there are more safe queens out there than heavily used guns.  Do you see heavy wear on the gun from use?  If not, then I'd say you are far from needing to replace any consumables.

Clean it and shoot it.  Do you need the RRK?  For me, it's nice since I have small hands/short fingers.

Once you've put a few thousand rounds through it, then look to replace springs.

What are you trigger pull weights now?  Do you have any issues with light strikes?

All a S2O needs is an extended firing pin, reduced power firing pin spring, and a 12lb hammer spring.

That'll bring the DA where it needs to be while maintaining 100% reliability.
