The Savage is in the safe, scope and bipod moved to a brand new MTR.  Zeroed the MTR quickly at 100 yards and then shot 10 five shot groups at a little over an inch, in a hurry, and after a dentist appointment.  SK Rifle Match for now.  Got home, ran two wet and two dry patches then the borescope, all looked excellent.  Unscrewed the action and adjusted the trigger pull down to 2lb-11 oz from 3lb-2 oz, checked torque of action screws and sight and sight rail, cased it up ready for some slower paced and potentially more serious group shooting on Friday.

This is my first CZ rimfire rifle, and it is elegant to say the least.  Very well constructed and a beautiful stock.  The Savage seems and feels rather unrefined compared to the CZ.  I was late ordering some 10 round magazines, but they are on the way.

I am one happy camper.  Video Friday if everything goes as currently planned.

Sounds like there's some potential in your MTR. Be interesting when you get some serious time with it.

Congrats Joe, the MTR is a beautiful rifle. Unfortunate about the Savage, but life is too short to shoot guns that don't love you back.

Good shooting!  Welcome to the CZ rimfire club. You have peaked my interest into shooting 22 lr at 100 +yards. I might have to try it.

Today's session was pretty darn good, for me, at least.  I am very confident I can improve on this, at least learn to become more consistent.

If you improve much on 5/8" at 100 your going to make the rest of us jealous. That's a nice looking set up you have there.

Thanks, David.  What I would really be happy to be able to do is shoot 10 groups in a row with all of them under 1".  It is the variation in the groups that I need to improve on.  Today was pretty good, with an average still just a little over an inch, but no terrible groups.  I just need to work on it, just like I had to do with the pistols.

Nice shooting!

Love my MTR, even though at this point it's just been a backyard session to get things on paper, and that didnt take long! I've got a 20MOA rail with a Leupold VX3i 6.5x20 so definitely planning on some 100 yard sessions.

One of the problems I've had to work on is deciding if it's the rifle/ammo combination or my shooting. Larger number of shoot groups will answer some of this but some times the variable is the day I'm having. Bad day, bad groups, good day and a remarkable improvement in the groups. It can be humbling knowing it's me.

Joe, the MTR is a really beautiful rifle. I have looked at one in a local gun store a few times. Why I haven't bought it is because of the other CZ rifles I keep looking at in another store.

Great shooting!

david s--Exactly!  Mental attitude is a big factor in single hand shooting with the pistols as well, and that is where I have all of my experience.  I'm also working out the best aim point for me to use.  I'm thinking a 3/4"-1" red dot sticky on yellow paper for the black cross hairs in my scope.  The black X worked pretty well.  The circles are too small.

It is little things like the target contrast, parallax, focus, ocular, eye relief that I need to try to optimize for me.  The trigger pull is least of my concerns right now.  Seat height, rear bag height, bipod pivot tension, lots of little things.

The rifle bore cleans up pretty well with just two wet then two dry patches if I only shoot two boxes of ammo.  That is another big difference between the Savage and the CZ.  And the action is located in the stock with a metal bar embedded in the beautiful stock.

Joe L  Great rifle. Just got mine a week ago but have not got to range. Scope mounted. QUESTION:  What brand/Model Bi Pod did you install and do you like it for bench shooting as this is all I will do with my MTR.

JB--the bipod shown in the photo is the one from my Savage.  I got a 6-9" Harris with a pivot that I installed on Friday after getting home from the range.  Same as one shown in the photo except for the pivot.  The new one is identical to what I have on my Savage Model 10 .308 bolt rifle.  Works fine on a bench, maybe a little tall to be honest.  I have a short squeeze bag and have to add a 2x4 spacer.  I also got a tension lever to adjust the tension on the pivot bolt easily.  It replaces the thumb nut that comes on the Harris bipod.
