Loose Trigger Pack: Easy fix?
« on: October 15, 2020, 12:33:14 PM »
Total newbie to everything to do with firearms so bear with me a little........

Noticed that the trigger pack of the Scorpion rotates down at the front when the trigger is pulled.  Spoke with CZ and they say that this is a common issue and, most importantly, of no consequence.  Surprised that they'd know about it and not fix it.   I came up with one and want to share it here for 2 reasons:

First and foremost, is there any reason you guys can think of that this would interfere with the functioning of the gun and be unsafe?  Provided it is OK, hoped it might help others that are experiencing the same issue:

My first thought was shimming the retention pin but I couldn't think of how to do it, nor how to get it to thread through its receiver without being stripped off even if I did.

Looking at the the opposite end of the problem I saw a simple fix:   The center of rotation is at the upper end of the trigger pack towards the safety.  When the front of the pack rotates down, the lower back end of the pack rotates back and "into" the grip.  A shim placed between the lower back of the pack and the gun body should do the trick and not require CNC machining for manufacture.

(I can't figure out how to post pictures but will email them to anyone interested):

On the back of the trigger pack is a "U" shaped flat surface that surrounds a triangular projection.  I put 2 layers of gel-like double sided mounting tape along the bottom of the "U" and underneath the projection. The pack now seats with a nice solid "ker-thunk" and fits better than OJ Simpson's famous glove.

The tape is very sticky at first but loses its tackiness quickly when handled.  Stays on the pack if you apply it carefully, and working the outer surface makes all of the stickiness disappears and the tape won't stick to the gun body and with  without sticking to the gun-body.  It is also very malleable and stays flexible even after being compressed.  Once in place it functions as a "rubber bumper" between the parts:

1 layer was not enough to do the job.  2 layers fit kind of tight, but because of the gummy nature of the tape it flattened down .

The pack takes more pressure to seat in place but lands with a satisfying "thunk", and all of that movement is gone.

First thing I would do is to make sure all the screws are tight, the lower is installed correctly and see if moving the grip forward do anything.

Like you said, it's a known issue but doesn't effect performance, assuming it's not drastic.

I'm fortune not to have this issue but if I did I'd be looking at placing a self made shim made out of plastic, kydex or a gasket material and shim it between the lower and the grip.  Since the grip is attached to the frame and doesn't need removed to clean the weapon, it should work. My concern about using glue or tape would be with the chemicals used to clean the weapon would probably make a mess out of it, possible chance of it gumming up the trigger group. Not to mention it would need reapplied every time you took the lower housing off to clean it.

I certainly wouldn't have thought about oils reacting with the tape--that's very helpful and thanks.

OTOH, taking your point a bit further, plastic and rubber could also react with oil.  Which means we've got to come up with something inert, and I can't think of anything that isn't solid.  If it's solid, it would have to be exactly the right size.  And how would it adhere without some substance/material that would react with lubricant.

The tape is nowhere near any moving parts so if I remove the lower during maintenance shouldn't I be able to avoid contaminating it with lube?

A shim would be removable and replaceable. Most abs, silicone, kydex, PTFE, polyethylene is chemical resistant which is why they can be found on firearms.
You should put the glue down, read the manual, clean it, shoot it. I'd seriously consider the use of any type of tape or glue between the upper and lower. It's not airsoft and it will fail. Unless you're larping around the house or hanging it on the wall there should be no glue
