Six inch barrel advantages? worth it? CZ 85 combat/CZ 75
« on: January 30, 2021, 05:55:51 PM »
I did not find this topic in my search so here it goes.

I am contemplating the purchase of a 6 inch barrel for my CZ 85C.
It currently has the factory barrel.

I do not plan on having it threaded.

I am under the notion that it may enhance or improve 25 yard target groups. Maybe I am just Covid bored !

My CZ 85 C has the CGW race hammer/adjustable sear kit and CZC pre-B disco. Factory sights.
I only shoot single action (my pistol is factory da/sa)
I do not shoot competitions. Just recreational range time, no double taps etc. Just methodical single shots at a time with bulls eye intent. It shoots accurate groups at 12 yards. My personal visual limitations affect 25 and 50 yards but it ain't that bad.
I normally shoot 12 yard and 25 yard and sometimes 50 yard outdoor range.

My thoughts are that the extra 1.25 inch barrel length will not do much enhancement.
Much like the contrast between a 4 inch and 6 inch revolver.
I realize that the shooter is the principle outcome variable.
No delusions there.

But, has anybody had experience with the CZ 75 six inch barrel and seen worthwhile improvements in longer ranges (25 and 50 yards) ?

Thanks

Accuracy from a purely mechanical viewpoint, a short fat barrel is more accurate than a longer thin barrel.  Longer barrel will give you more velocity, but will vibrate more.  As you are not extending the sight radius, which would aid in accuracy I do not see a reason for doing so.

I am considering having a 6 inch barrel put on one of my TS in 357 Sig, but the goal is not better accuracy it is hopefully another 100 fps. on a 147gr bullet.  The gun is for pig hunting.

Just my thoughts. Good luck on your project.  Really miss my 85.

Good insight Fuzzy, thank you !

More bacon !! Get them pigs !

BTW this puppy has the 6 inch barrel but it most likely was used to accommodate the 1911 type bushing.

[sic] "a 6-inch barrel (153 mm) and a sight length of 206 mm."

My 85 Combat has an approx  sight length of 6.75 inches (171.45 mm measured from the back of the rear sight to the front face of the front sight) or 1.33 inch shorter than this linked specialty CZ.

Been waiting for two years for that pig hunt.  Maybe this year when we get past COVID.

Good luck my friend.

you only get more bullit speed, it is still held in front at the normal short place and the sights arent changed.
