Grip N Pull bullet Puller - Product Review
« on: February 11, 2021, 09:35:08 AM »
I've been working with the grip N pull bullet puller for a couple days now and gotta say I dig it WAY better than the kinetic puller. I have not tried the collet pullers. Here are some notes.
- They are a bit pricy $50 each, but they have paid for themselves already pulling bullets and primers.
- Poly coated bullets will slip most of the time, straight lead and copper plated/jacketed rounds GTG.
- Minimal marring of the bullet profile.
- On some truncated cone bullets you can use the smaller diameter holes to start and successfully pull.
- I added a wooden block with a hole in it on top for rifle rounds to keep from marring the surface of the single stage.
- Wearing gloves does help some bullets are harder to grasp than others. I'm thinking this may be due to variance in case length/crimp.
- My 9mm crimp looks AWESOME!! on 124PDs, they are just a slight hourglass/waist indention.
- Much faster than kinetic puller.
- Wife doesn't come in an ask "What's that hammering sound? Do you have to do that inside?"

Thanks for sharing your experience with it. I've been looking at them but haven't been able to swallow the price yet. I'm not really too concerned about saving the bullets - it's the primed cases I'm after!

If you're only doing one caliber the Lee (looks like the Hornady puller) collet puller works great. If several the collets add up fast.  RCBS and others make the same thing.  About half to 2/3 the price new. Generics run about $13 but I never tried those..

HAVE TO TAKE THE ABOVE BACK.  CHECKING CURRENT PRICES THEY COST ALMOST THE SAME!

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

thanks for the write up....

i still have the kinetic and so far, they work fine for me.

im not making that many boo-boos and using the kinetic for 1 or 2 rounds isnt a big deal.  If i was going to do alot of them, then i may check one out.  I was also looking at the collet style too.

fwiw, im not scared of buying and trying for myself.  Yes 45 bucks is alot to some and peanuts to others, but at that price point, im willing to buy and try if needed.  If i was that bad off, i would not be in guns or any other hobby and worse case, i would just cut out my mochas for 1 or 2 weeks and use the "savings" to buy it.

It's not a matter of being able to afford the price or having the money to spend. It's a matter of spending 50 bucks on a glorified pair of pliers that has me hesitating.

again, its up to you and how you see things...

there are those that will drive 100 miles in a big truck to save 5 bucks.

its your time & money and your choice.

and in the end, everyone will justify whatever they want or dont.

Yeah, there is a lot of design in that cost for sure. I want to see someone here get some cheap scrap slip-lock pliers or similar molded to the correct caliber. You would only get one/two calibers per plier, but I think it could be done if you can anneal or drill/ream the jaws somehow.

I'm still lost money in it for now, but knowing my boo boos are gone is nice. I have them all sorted out in ziplock bags by caliber along with empty primed cases. They will be used as practice. I also like the idea of being able to pull a bullet when setting up dies (if adjusting COAL and going just past it). I don't think I'll be able to use them on the progressive press.

One other thing is the pistol rounds need to use the sleeve, and sometimes you will need to raise/lower the ram some to get the round seated in the caseholder. Then there is a tad more of up and down to get the shell out without spilling powder. The rifle rounds come out QUICK!

Good thing they work or else we'd need to call them the "Gripe-N-Pull".   O0

Good write up.  Already have most of the collets, but that sounds like a better way to go.

Have my puller and collets already or I would probably go that route.  Great when you get a bunch of someones reloads to use the components for your own reloading.

I have my Collet puller for rifle stuff but I never really had anything for pistol other than my RCBS inertia puller & I hate that thing, LOL We all know they work but they stink! I bought the Grip-N-Pull pistol and so we will see how it goes. I have a box full of range pick-up and a bunch from a buddy that was underwater in a local flood years ago so I have some work to do! I'll keep ya posted on when it shows up & how I like it!

I rarely need to pull anything, most recently I was given several hundred rounds (nearly 1k) of overcharged 9mm's that I pulled with a kinetic puller just to recover the components. I doubt I'd see any performance improvement using anything else. But, if I did not already have pulling covered, I might try it.
