My CZ-50 doesn't want to chamber a round
« on: February 11, 2021, 12:02:55 PM »
I got this pistol a few weeks back.  It's literally the nicest condition surplus pistol I've ever owned.  My surprise is that it doesn't function well (unlike my cz-82 and my various combloc tokarevs that all look rough but function great).  When I first got it I was completely unable to remove the slide.  After putting a few rounds through that probl has been rectified.

The real problem is it very regularly does not want to chamber a round.  You pull back on the slide and a round gets sort of jammed instead of entering the chamber.

How do I fix this?  I've gotten suggestions to try a different magazine ( I only have the 1 and these mags aren't cheap so I'd hate to buy another and find out I still have the same problem). Also someone suggested polishing the feed ramp.

You mark that frame an eight and you are entering a world of pain.

Field strip and clean the snot out, literally.
I did the same with my mag.

The main spring is usually super stout, the mag springs and slide springs weaken over time - some folks replace those.

Clean first then reassess is my advice.

what ammo are you using? There are slight differences in the rim shape and thickness between domestic .32 AUTO and European 7.65 Browning.

Does the rim easily slide under the extractor hook? Looks like it might be getting caught there. Check for gunk &/or burrs.

As mentioned previously, give it a detailed cleaning and lube. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to replace the mag. Failure to feed issues are most often mag related.

I would also clean and lube the mag. Take it apart and clean and lube, I use Hornady One Shot cleaner lube, which is basically a dry film lube and cleaner. There are also a few mags on Ebay for around $50/ea.

If the round is hanging up just as it is in the picture I would do as suggested above in checking case rim dimensions and I'd also make sure the extractor is moving freely and not frozen in place. Make sure the breach face is clean and smooth as well.
