for the direction the pin comes out, I think it can vary between guns. When I installed the MCarbo kit, I seem to remember that I had a little difficulty tapping mine out at first until I looked harder at the flared end and realized it was opposite the instructions in the video.
On second thought, that might have been the firing pin retaining pin that I had to remove opposite the video.
Just make sure you identify which end is flared on YOUR gun before you assume it and start punching, inadvertently with excessive force. On my RPFP, I ended up marring one of the slide serrations slightly before it occurred to me to try punching it out from the other side.
