question about a new P10S
« on: April 16, 2021, 02:46:41 PM »
I stopped at my LGS on my way home today just to browse around. I was not looking to buy anything but I saw that they have a P10S. short story is I got one. I will pick it up next Friday. I was just watching some youtube videos and noticed that the P10S that I got had a '20' on the right side just above the slide release. All the videos I have seen do not have this. Why is that?

Most likely you have a Czech made P10S.

Another thing I noticed is that mine has 3 dot white dot sights. The videos I have seen have an orange front sight and a black out rear sight.

Those are the US guns, the orange XS front night sight and serrated black rear. I concur that you have a Czech gun as another said.

EDIT - I was just thinking about the US optic ready ones. The regular US ones also have 3 dot sights as you describe. Either way it will say on it where it was made.

The USA made ones lack any proof requirements/marks. The 20 on that location next to the proof mark would represent the proof year for a pistol made in the Czech Republic. The older P10-S pistols had the proof year and mark on the right muzzle with the SN.

Edit: forgot that the exported guns(to USA) do not use the CIP proofs, just the relatively newer triangular one.

I think this confirms that what I bought is a Czech made handgun.

All of the USA made guns I've seen came with a case that has no cutouts in the foam. If your case just had two plain sides it was almost certainly made in the USA. My 1st run optics ready P-10s had no proof marks on the barrel or slide, the only serialized part was the frame.

Mine also came with a black serrated rear sight and an orange ring tritium front sight.

Here is the best pic I have of my p10s.

Not really concerned if what I got is made in the US or is Czech made. I'm sure both of them are quality products. As I mentioned,  this was an impulse buy for me. I just saw one on the shelf. I have not done any research on it. I just came to know afterwards that there is a US made and Czech made P10s. I have owned many CZs in the past; P07, PCR, Sp01, Sp01 Target. Currently own a stainless 75B, SAO 97B, Scorpion, and now, this P10s.

So I picked up my new P10S last Friday. I cleaned it and oiled it when I got home. Took it to a range yesterday and shot 50 rounds of Mag Tech and 50 rounds of Tula. The first 50 rounds of Mag Tech ran without issues at all. On the latter half of shooting the Tula, I had 2 failure to extract. The empty brass just stayed in the chamber and I had to use my finger to extract them. Is this common?

Btw, I got a Czech made pistol.

Tula ammo isn't exactly known for high production standards, it's cheap, foreign-made bulk ammo and issues with it aren't uncommon, which is why I generally only shoot it as a last resort (although we can't exactly be all that picky these days). Also, are you positive it is brass cased? A lot of Tula ammo is steel or aluminum cased and I've tended to see more feeding and extraction issues with these.

I hate to tell you this, but the US version of the P-10S, the accuracy falls apart at distances over 200 yards.  At 25 yards, it's OK.  :)

ooops..I meant to say steel case. I also shot my other brand new handgun, an HK P30SK, yesterday wkth my brand new P10S. I shot 100 rounds of Tula in the HK and it was totally fine with the cheap stuff. Tula is the only ones I have now.

I bet the P-10S chamber is slightly tighter or dirtier than the P30SK was when firing the Tula.  That may be the only difference.  Shoot what you have and enjoy the new firearm.  It is becoming my favorite striker fired pistol.  Followed closely by a P-10F and an original P-10C.

Likewise. With an optic on it, and the ability to run the larger cap P-10C mags I already had in the S, and with the addition of a HBI trigger, it's about as perfect as a sub-compact striker can be, imo.

The easiest way to confirm is if it says "Made In Czech Republic" on the left side of the frame on the dust cover. The US guns have "CZ USA Kansas City, KS" in the same spot.
