221 fireball brass
« on: June 25, 2021, 11:35:21 AM »
For those of us who have a 221 fireball,  you know that finding brass can be problematic. I had some 20 tactical brass made by lapua that I had no use for, so I reformed them into the fireball brass.
I bought a forming die set so I would always have brass available to reload.
First picture is with the form die #1.
Second is form die #2.
The third picture is a shell trimmed and ran through the sizing die.
I necked turned the brass to match the thickness of my lapua brass.
I weighed the reformed brass and they weighed within .2 grains of the regular lapua 221 brass.
So if you want to have a never-ending supply of 221 brass, I recommend a form die set.

Personally I have enough brass to last awhile. Remington is known to quit supporting their cartridges. I now have a way to repurpose some brass so I'm not dependent on high priced brass.
I also anneal my brass to make them last longer.

Nice. Knowing this place, the price is probably decent. I didn't even ask, but I remembered it since I'd never seen it before. I even debated buying it if only to justify buying a 221 Fireball someday

Midway currently has Lapua 221 brass on sale, still not cheap though. I've a pair of XP-100's, ones still a factory pistol in 221 Fireball and the others a 17 MK IV. I've made more than a little brass for these from LC brass in the past.
