New CJW PCR
« on: July 25, 2021, 03:44:09 PM »

I don't post on the forum much, as really my CZs just work and I don't have much to say that has not been said many times over, however, I have to say a few words about my new Cajun built PCR.
I took delivery from CGW last week, and I want to thank Thomas for an incredibly rapid build time from order to it arriving at my FFL.   I had it to the range this Saturday, and was frankly astounded by the pistol.  I did fully clean and lube it before the range visit, as is my custom, but I still thought it may need a bit of break in to be fully reliable.  Was I ever wrong.  I put 5 different types of JHP defensive rounds, and 5 different FMJ types, all factory ammo, through the PCR and it just chomped them down like a starving man at an all you can eat buffet.

The trigger is a wonderment.  The SA pull it short, with a crisp break at just over three and a half pounds, just perfect for a self defense pistol, and the DA pull, I think, rivals my S&W revolvers.  Simply amazing.  I had a set of Dawson tritium sights installed in the build and it shot to point of aim out of the box (with slight vertical change depending on bullet weight).  It made it easy for these late 60s eyes to put the rounds where they need to go.  I'm no stranger to CZ accuracy, but this PCR is the top of the heap of all my defensive pistols, regardless of brand. (and I have some very good ones).

I don't know why I waited so long to get a custom built CZ.  A big thanks to all the folks at CJW.  Well done gents!

A fine looking CZ. Sounds like it tuned up well. Thank you for the post and the pic. May it continue to run flawlessly.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Thanks for the report.  Have been looking at a PCR.  May be time to pull the trigger.

this is a really encouraging review.  I'm also contacting CJW to get a custom PCR.  Do you mind clarifying if you added anything else on top of the standard custom work?  This is the gun i'm looking at:  https://cajungunworks.com/product/91194-pcr-9mm/

Thanks.

I had them install the Dawson tritium night sights, other than that it's their standard Pro Package upgrade.  I recently put a set of LOK G10 thin grip panels on it,  just to thin it down a bit for IWB carry.  So far I have 475 trouble free rounds through it.  I'd like to shoot it more, but today's ammo pricing and availability being what it is, I am limiting my shooting a bit.

When you order you will be able to talk to the smith about your setup wishes for how you will use the pistol, Carry, Range Toy, Competition, etc...

You will not be disappointed.

How do you think this compares to the highly praised P01.

Well, I don't own a P-01 so I cannot make a valid comparison.  Mechanically they are essentially the same.  I went with the PCR because I like it's more svelte looks which I think are better for carry, and just plain sexier over all.

I had a similar Pro-package build with my PCR but added a 10X bushing and had the barrel crowned. It's a fantastic pistol!

BlitzPig. Bought a p-01 10 yrs ago and over time ended up with the cgw pro pkg by bit's and pieces. My delema is i also own a sp-01 with pro pkg so i would like to set up my P-01 specifically for carry with a bit heavier single action. it is 2 lbs 6 oz. single and 6 lbs 10 oz. double . Would like the additioinal weight on the single action trigger pull. Do you know what they specifically installed in your pistol to get the 3  1/2 lb trigger pull single? i have the cgw ring hammer,85c trigger, floating trigger pin, reduced spring pkg for firing pin assembly, extended firing pin, and a 13 lb hammer spring. basically the pro pkg with the overtravel and reset adjusted. My SP-01 is at 3lbs and  7 lbs 3 0z. .abit heavier however it is unfired and the P-01has probably 1200 rds thru it. thought i would try the stock trigger return spring for starters.

I don't really know the specifications on the individual parts.  When the gunsmith and I talked on the phone I told him I wanted a safe carry piece and not a super light match trigger.
Perhaps contacting them would get your the info you need?

BlitzPig,     Took the Reduced tension trigger return spring out and installed the stock trigger return spring. single action was 2 lbs 15 oz. with cgw trigger return spring five pull average and with stock return spring reads 3 lbs 6 oz. five pull average. double action now is 6 lbs 12 oz. 5 pull average.
