CZ Czechmate Feed Issues
« on: July 29, 2021, 05:25:30 PM »
I am new to the CZ brand and have two problems one bigger than the other.  First,I have about 1k rounds of 115 ammo through it with zero issues and bought some 147gr 9 Major ammo from Atlanta arms w/ OAL of 1.165 that just would not go into battery and were near impossible to get out if I let the slide try to do its thing.  I have since found some 124gr 9 Major thats much better but occasionally still have to bump the slide to get it into battery and when I try to eject and show empty, the last round is tough to get out.  Not impossible but tough.   Read a lot and wanted options if I needed to ream or shoot more of the major ammo and hope it gets better.   The other issue is my magazines definitely sound like the old salt and pepper shakers so any thoughts on that would also be appreciated.   New to the forum, so apologies if I put too much into a single post.

Thank you

Either ream your barrel or use shorter OAL ammo. It won’t get any better if you keep on shooting the same ammo you have now. Max OAL I had seen for stock czechmate barrels is 1.155” OAL. My czechmates’ barrels had been reamed to accept up to 1.175” OAL. Are you using the 124 Gr 9 major rounds from Everglades?

As for your magazines, as long as it feeds properly (after you solve your OAL issues) it’s okay. However, you might have to tune your magazine especially the 26 round mag.

I am using the the Everglades 124gr 9 Major.   Love how they shoot and will probably love the CM more once I get it reamed.  Doing a plunk test, it doesnt look like anything beyond 1.135 will move freely and all the Everglades are 1.145 =-.004.    Thank you for the feedback.

Like Gorge and bb have pointed out, you'll need to look for loaded major 9mm ammo with a listed 1.125" average (or less) to shoot without reaming.

And, if you do get it reamed, make sure the person doing the reaming is aware of it being a CZC hardened barrel!

This list might help:

Actually, the czechmate, TS and TSO barrels are not hardened. However, the shadow 2 and P-10 barrels are hardened. Don’t know why CZ installed hardened barrels on some guns but not on others.

I had no idea!  Took it for granted that their premium brands would automatically have the hardened barrels as my S2O does.

Thanks for the info!

You’re welcome.

I didn’t know it myself until I wanted my shadow 2 barrel reamed along with my Czechmate and TSO barrels.

I don’t like the nitrite coated barrels . I find if there is a rough spot in the lands grooves or the chamber it can cause issues and the nitrite makes the barrels so hard. Rather just have the barrel carbon steel or stainless with no coating.

Couldn’t agree more.

This is the reason why I didn’t have my shadow 2 barrel reamed based on the info I got so I decided to just TSO and czechmate barrels done.
