CZ-52 takedown
« on: August 15, 2021, 09:02:45 PM »
Hi all, Recently got a CZ-52, which I enjoyed shooting. I took it down for cleaning, but, man, I had a bear of a time getting the slide off. I just couldn't get those tabs down far enough. I was pulling back on the slide and resting the barrel on the table, but I just couldn't get a could grip on those tabs. No problem getting the barrel out or the slide back on, but I do not look forward to having to take off that slide again. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to make it easier? It looks so easy on videos I've seen!
Thanks.

You shouldn't need to pull the slide back before pulling down the disassembly catch tabs.  I played with my pistol for a few minutes to see what might make it difficult to get the slide off, and I found some ways to make it harder than what I experience.  So...

Don't leave the mag inserted.  Just pop it out before trying to remove the slide.

Don't leave the hammer down.  Put it at half cock before trying to take the slide off or before putting it back on.

Don't slide the slide backward before pulling the disassembly catch down.  Pull the disassembly catch down first and hold it, then slide the slide forward slightly to the point where it pops off the frame.  Just lift it away at this point.

If you're still having trouble, maybe you can post a little video showing what you're trying to do.  It might help us spot something you can do differently.

Good luck,
Scott

Thanks for the tips. The real trouble is just pulling those tabs down. I just slip right off.

I had to check on my CZ52.

With the mag removed and hammer cocked, pulling the tabs down with the thumb and index finger of my right hand doesn't take much effort and it releases the slide and it comes off easily.  In fact it just pops off.

This is absolutely right. I had 2 of these pistols at one point and they were very easy to take down this way. Also you MUST keep in mind if you are shooting ANY surplus ammo in that gun it needs to be cleaned ASAP after each range trip as much of that old ammo is corrosive.
