In 2012 or so, I had expected Pres. Obama to try to create a series of tariffs on imported ammo, not just Russian brands.

That's the main reason I began storing so much Wolf and Tula. Such tariffs seemed unlikely, but they seemed very possible, depending upon how much political capital survived the very close call of his ACA legislation.

Isn't the timing of this Very weird....immed. following so much criticism of the Afghanistan chaos we allowed (a better withdrawal plan had been Dismantled by the White House), among leaders of NATO countries?
Even an MP -- combat veteran -- speaking in the UK Parliament two days ago was visibly angry.  >:(

The bizarre timing of this latest distraction (to very Bad Judgement on foreign policy) is just too strange. ::)

Well that will probably cause a rise again in ammo cost just as it was starting to roll back but as far as rusky ammo goes I wouldn't use that stuff as a paper weight. I stock piled some quality ammo years ago before the plandemic along with a hefty stock of my own handloads.
From a political standpoint I think most of what we are seeing is an intentional distraction. We should be far more concerned about what we are not seeing/hearing about. That's the stuff that drives the real nails in our societies coffin.

It's not a coincidence.

The White House is saying to the media... Focus on this new policy, not the biggest screw-up since the Iranian takeover of the American embassy in 1979. Because doing so demonstrates too many parallels between the incompetence of Jimmy Carter and Joe Biden.

 :o

Jimmy Carter is a very happy man right now. He is only the 2nd most incompetent fool we have had as POTUS now that the current moron is stumbling around in the White House trying to recall where he is.

The media won't care, nor will they spend any time on it at all. This affects no one in their viewership. It's a non story in their view.

This is coincidence, not cunning.

And before everyone gets wrapped around the axle over this, you should probably read the actual order. It states:

Quote
'New and pending permit applications for the permanent importation of firearms and ammunition manufactured or located in Russia will be subject to a policy of denial.'

Nothing about existing importers at all

It does affect existing importers. Their import permits are for a specific quantity. When that quantity is met, a new permit is applied for. I read that the approval process takes 4-6 weeks, by which time the sanctions will be in place. I also read that Russian ammo accounts for roughly 40% of the market.

I'm only surprised that Biden didn't do this earlier. As I understand it, imports and trade agreements are one of the few areas where the Executive Branch can make decisions without oversight or approval. Even if Biden can't deny your ownership of guns outright; he can at least make it far more expensive - which he just did.

I personally use very little Russian ammo. But supply and demand economics means that even non-Russian ammo will increase in price; probably drastically.

And so it goes, and its only going to get worse.

I'm just glad I bought what I did, when I did....just wish I had bought more.

I was hoping that some more TulAmmo primers would make it through the blockade, but not looking good at this point.

The one Russian ammo that might make it through is Wolf Gold 223. This is actually quite good quality 223 practice ammo. It is also NOT manufactured in Russia, but rather in Taiwan under contract to Wolf. See this article: https://www.theammoblog.com/wolf-gold-223-ammo-review/

Although I'm not a legal or trade expert, I would hope that Wolf USA could import these directly from Wolf Taiwan.

Hopefully other non-Russia sources of ammo will step up... even though I have a good supply and reload, I have a harder time enjoying my stash when its harder to replenish   :-\

It figures they'd do this now that 7.62x39 costs were coming down to somewhat reasonable prices. Ten pages of google searches this morning revealed ZERO steel case 7.62x39 available. It didn't matter if it was Russian, Romanian, Serbian or from some other country. Of course there's still brass cased available in a few places, but it is ridiculously overpriced. There's ammo available on GB, but at exorbitant prices. Fortunately I bought a 1k case a couple weeks ago to re-supply what I've shot in the last year.

I've toyed with the idea of reloading for it, but then there's the whole bullet/primer/powder fiasco. .310 bullets have never been abundant anyway.

This is just another end run by Creepy Uncle Joe to impact our ability to exercise our rights. Kind of ironic that in the last couple of days millions of rounds have gone from sitting on the shelf to being in the public's hands.
No matter where you're going, there you are.

note that this is after brain-dead Joe lifted US opposition to the Russian natural gas pipeline to western Europe. It is not about Russia, it is about cutting off supply to Americans.

Maybe if Hunter gets placed on the Board of one of the Russian ammo makers this will all be reversed.
