First Kadet2 shots
« on: August 29, 2021, 03:29:30 PM »
All in all the first range trip went very well.

Shot 120 Rem 36 gr bullets.  Very first round jammed on the feed ramp and tore itself up.  The remaining nine in the mag all loaded just fine.  Had a total of 3 failed to load, one ejection jam up, 6 times the slide locked back during recoil, and a whole lot of failure to fire on the 1st trigger pull.  Had to recock the hammer and then the round would fire.

Time to field strip it and see what it looks like then clean and lube it.  Looks like I'll need to polish the feed ramp and the rails, and order a heavier main spring then try again.  I had some of the same simple problems others have had so there are plenty of threads on how to deal with these issues.

It was easy to dial in the sights for it to group very tightly at 10 yards.  It is a very smooth straight shooting pistol!  I am pleased with it.

First the ammo you used is not optimal in my experience for the Kadet2.  Mine prefer 40gr High velocity (mini-mags seem to work best).  Read the sticky notes on the stove-pipe issues.  Lots of good information there.

All my kadet2s (have 4) demand to be cleaned.  Same is true with the magazines.  Also while you have the mag apart I would clean up the seams on the follower.  The injection mold will leave some rough edges that can keep the mag from functioning properly.

Also you may want to look at your hammer spring, it may be too light for the kadet kit.  Many need 17-18 lb hammer springs to get reliable ignition.  Some are lucky and a 12 lb works just fine.  I have not been so lucky most require a 17 lb spring with only one will get by with a 15 lb spring.

These are great devices for training and are incredibly accurate.  Installed one on a P-01 today...and yes I now have to replace the hammer spring.  Other than light hits it functioned well and shot a bit high.  New front sight is now inbound.

Good luck on yours.  Hope this helped.

I never had much luck with Remington 22s in Auto Loaders
Their Crip are quite weak
They tend to fold while trying to ramp into the Chamber, causing Hard Jams
It very easy to snap one in two with your bare Hand
So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what's coming after HIM !

Congrats on the Kadet - it’s a great addition! As others have said, you likely will need at least a 17lb hammer spring to avoid light strikes. Fortunately, the heavier spring has minimal effect on SA trigger pull but will be felt in DA. My own Kadet eats everything with no issues but REM 36gr have caused issues in other guns. 40gr seems to work better across the board.

Got the Kadet field stripped, cleaned and lubed.  Removed the 13# hammer spring and replaced it with the original factory 18# spring (I tend to remember that was it's strength).  Pulled out some Fiocchi 38 gr high velocity ammo and loaded the mags.

I've got some 40gr around here somewhere.  If I get lucky and find it that will come to the range too.

Now to find time for the 2nd range trip with it to see how it shoots with the adjustments.

The heavier hammer spring and the Fio 38gr fixed all my original problems.  No FTL, FTF, or stove pipes on this range trip.

I did shoot some more of the Rem 36gr just to see the difference with the heavier spring.  Every round fired the first time.  But I still had loading jams and a stove pipe.  Glad that ammo works well in my rifle.

Glad to hear you got it (somewhat) worked out
There are a few Bullets that the KADET just will not play nice with

I am completely fixed.

The Rem rounds have always been cheap.  The big, bulk box was open...FWIW.  I will use them in other guns.  With the Fio everything worked like a pistola should!

I'm looking forward to trying other ammo options.

The best part is the Kadet 2 worked perfecly with the heavier hammer spring.  It is a bullseye score shooter!
