Stock Advice Welcome!
« on: September 09, 2021, 06:05:11 PM »
It like to go with this:
https://www.vz58usa.com/product/vz58-tactical-folding-adapter-with-buffer-tube/

Functionally, this is about the best stock going.  But it is over 19 oz with the LIGHTEST M4 style stock.  The folder is about 12.5 Oz.

I am thinking of this also:
https://www.vz58usa.com/product/vz58-stock-adapter-with-buffer-tube/

Much lighter and about 11 oz with a light M4 Stock.

It seems to have a gentler angle (preferred) over Stormwerks, but very similar.

Anyone tried the ACE adapter and a M4 Style folder?  How  is weight?
Here is one:  http://www.vz58rifle.com/products/folding-stock-module-ge-2-w-ctr-type-stock-vz58/

Still more weight than I want...

Thanks.

This is the lightest stock adapter as i own the stormwerkz as well as this one. I weighed them in order to compare.

If you wanna keep it light, get a smoke composites stock with this adapter.

How is the use of iron sights with this?

Get a stormwerkz type 3 or 4 -- inline 3 is better for recoil management, 4 factory angle if you have a fat face.

You want that vertical adjustment.  My only gripes are two fold -- 1, the ACE BOSS does help to prevent rotation, which this lacks; and 2, the VZ adapters do not have a QD mount integral like their M92 PAP ones do that I have on a different gun...

I *think* the threaded portion towards the top might be made to fit a standard swivel, but don't know for certain. Check w/ SW.

The SW adapter plus either the ACE or SW folding mechanism.  SW locks when open, as well as when closed, and the lockup when closed is tighter and stronger with integral and increased wear tolerances.  But since the Boss feature is lacking on SW, your AR tube adapter will likely rotate before folding mechanism itself its ruined.  Locktite on face of stock adapter on assembly will help to prevent rotation in addition to properly tightening screws.
This is the adapter you'll want to use if running an AR stock w/ SW folder w/o the boss: https://www.primaryarms.com/doublestar-corp-pig-nose-adapter-for-ar-type-stocks-no-boss  Many other stocks also use this screw hole pattern.
Be aware that depending on thickness of stock, SW folder may not lock open.

The reason for stacking is that it allows you to mimic the Rifle Dynamics slightly cantilevered stock setup that helps to control and minimize recoil to the extent your face profile and optic/sight selection allows.  Each level of stacking allows you to move the stock higher.  All of the one piece AR adapters/integral folder adapters are lacking in this functionality.  And it's very unlikely you'll torque your stock enough to cause it to rotate, and offsetting screws on hinge to first level adapter stops the issue there..  I just rotated it slightly while torquing down (probably over-torquing) castle nut before locktite had cured so wanted to note the possibility.
Very happy w/ this setup on my M92 truck gun -- though thinking about moving it out of the truck given their doubling in price vs a few years ago, and the potentially forthcoming brace ban...

Rifle dynamics mount, if you're unfamiliar:

The KEY is to move the stock LOWER and get it straight.  These stocks in this link seem to do just that:

http://www.vz58rifle.com/

I am getting ready to pull the trigger, and while the SW Slanted one might work, I'm not sure its right.

Yes, I've got the fat face, so the standard fixed stock gives me slap.  The Folder is skinny enough to get under my cheek, so not so bad - but I'd like to do better.  Lower and straighter is better.

A straight stock below the inline of the bore has physics working against you.  Again, look into the "why" of the rifle dynamics configuration.  You're ahead w/ an angled stock that is at or above the primary focal point of pressure/force than a straight low one.

If you have an aggressive brake, you might be able to minimize, but it's far from ideal.

Cheek slap is primarily a function of muzzle device in my experience, but also possibly worn out recoil springs -- provided your form/technique is solid.

But your gun.  You do you.

*As you can see at link, that stock set is REALLY low:

Most will need a riser at even standard sight height -- this (2nd on slideshow at your link w/ ACOG) illustrates how low that mount actually is:

And FWIW, the only folder of theirs I'm personally interested in is this one -- which appears to be OE encased in polymer.

RSR:  Thanks for the advice.  I am going to stick with the military folder for now - I like the way it feels in a way.  I may try the VZ58USA or SW M4 adapter which both are available at an angle.

You are likely right, and I don't want to sink more money in something that might not work well.
