Hello All,

Due to my short fingers, I cannot actuate CZ manual safeties without shifting my grip. I found the CZCustom extended left-side safety, and it meets my needs.

However, I also prefer smoother/lighter trigger pulls, and have had good experiences with CGWs in the past.

So- I bought a CZ SP01 [manual safety] and installed both the CZCustom extended/wide left-side safety AND the Pro-Package manual safety trigger kit from CGW.

I spent quite a bit of time fine-tuning the adjustable sear to work with the CZC safety. I finally got it to where the safety would 'click' into 'safe' and not slide off when I pulled the trigger [hammer back].

Ok- All was good, I thought.

Then, when doing dry-firing, I noticed something: If the hammer was down, I could now put the safety on [couldn't with stock parts]. In addition, with the safety on and hammer down, I could now pull the trigger and the hammer would cam back and then drop forward to 'fire' the handgun. None of this would pop the safety to the 'off' position- it was on the whole time.  However, with the safety on, I couldn't rack the slide to simulate recoil.

Now, the CZ75/SP01 can't put the safety on with the hammer down, from my recollections. So, this is a situation I shouldn't ever engage in.
Yet, it CAN happen.

Is this just a byproduct of the finely tuned adjustable sear and after market safety? I never tried setting the sear to the factory safety, as I would sell the gun if I can't use the CZC Wide/Extended safety. The pistol just feels TOO awkward for me other wise.

[I know- "Buy an SP01 Tactical and move on!" I would, but I am in California and cannot get one shipped into the state as it isn't on our gun list. I'd prefer the Tactical just because the decocker CZ models work best for me.]

I didn't put this in either the CGW or CZC forums, as it involved the interplay of both of their products. This seemed the best place to post this without double/triple posting it.

I would appreciate any insights you can give on if my observations of the hammer down/safety now goes on but trigger moves hammer situation is 'normal' with either of these products [or not].

Thank you!

I've read here somewhere that pulling the trigger while the safety is on and hammer down, basically destroys the hammer/sear engagement and allows the hammer to slip off the sear. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along and confirm or correct my understanding. IIRC, the fix was a new hammer and NOT applying the safety when the hammer is down - there is no reason to do so anyway.

Hello Grendel,

Love the name, btw.

I have no intention of using the safety with the hammer down. It just struck me as a difference between the aftermarket parts and the factory parts.

I was wondering if it is 'normal' with these aftermarket parts installed to be able to do this [even if it shouldn't be done- ever].

Reading between the lines here, it seems that this is probably a normal change, considering the parts I swapped. Does that sound right?

I would never do it anyway. I can't put the safety on with hammer down on my 1911s, BHPs, or most of my other manual safety handguns. So, it would go against my entire normal techniques of use of manual safety.

However, with the exception of my Beretta 86 and Taurus PT99, none of these manual safety handguns is a DA/SA handgun. They are all SA- so having the hammer down and safety on would be silly.

It is normal for the safety to move into the "safe" position even with the hammer down when using the CGW adjustable sear but as has been stated doing so and pulling the trigger is not a good idea. If the safety blocks trigger function in the cocked and locked position it is adjusted and working correctly. The ONLY reason the sear is adjustable is to provide safety function on guns with modified performance hammers such as what comes in the CGW Pro-Package otherwise there's no performance advantage to it.
If you have time you can call CGW and they will gladly explain how this all works.

It says in the adjustable sear installations paper to only use it when fully cocked.

You've still got the old hammer?

Look at how deep the full cock notch on the hammer is vs. your aftermarket/upgrade hammer.

The sear doesn't move (rotate as much with the aftermarket hammer) like it does/did with the factory hammer.

The left side safety shaft cam requires some modification (metal removal) so it can rotate under the front of the sear when the sear is in the full cock notch (to keep the sear from releasing the hammer.)

All of mine with aftermarket hammers (three or four) will rotate the safety to the SAFE position with the hammer forward.  I just don't carry them that way.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
