Are any people new to the VZ-58?
« on: December 21, 2021, 12:05:34 AM »
I'm simply curious about their impressions, no matter what type. Makes no difference to me-not seeking any sort of debate of any type, just more discussions.
I'm retired with So Much more time to read about (and shoot) guns.... time finally Not spent commuting on jumpseats to/from the ATL crewbase (Atlanta), waiting in hotels to begin another working trip etc.

Some pretty frank talk is exchanged at times on AKfiles about them.

More frequent, general topics about them here might result in a corresponding growth in viewers, and an upwardly-curving "spiral" of more info .

But maybe that would create gradually higher prices for the rifles-factoring in the August news from the State Dept (future R. ammo import renewals)

AK Files are hit and miss - some topics have a ton, others are desperately wanting.

The VZ 58 is a VERY high quality X39 gun with some real advantages as measured in its 1960s configuration against the AKM.  Accuracy, weight, and size are all on the plus side.  Coolness and 'otherness' are also high on the list.

But... there were a few downsides IMHO - If you find the original stock configuration good on recoil - then there are no downsides per se.

Some folks find the buttstock tough to avoid getting rocked by the forward swell in the stock - in fact painfully so.  Its slope is a problem.  For me, I actually find the original folding stock of decent design and MUCH better than the underfolder which was the most pervasive in the 1960s AK/AKM.

Recoil is snappier.  Some think it is light, I say snappy.  No, it does not ROCK as the AKMs mass goes back and forth - but the short piston hits harder and snappier to me.

Now the modern guns.

Because of the aftermarket world and the proliferation of AKs the AK market is flush with all manner of parts, accessories, etc. etc. - so you can get more out of an AK than a VZ.  Case in point is the ability to EASILY mount a LVPO or micro and multiplier to the AK, but not so much the VZ.  There are many other advantages.

But the VZ is cool
