Which furniture for weight reduction?
« on: December 24, 2021, 08:42:04 PM »
What's the lightest furniture? Beaver, Poly? AR stock conversion? Bonesteel? I'm also loving the Magpul Zukov foregrip Samopal USA does...but Im sure that adds a lot of weight upfront.

Aluminum is lightest option for forend.

Most stock options will be similar weight, and I don't mind weight towards stock end to offset the barrel's weight.  Adjustable stocks will generally weight more than fixed length, especially if talking about steel adapters and hinges.

I don't think the Zukov would add much more overally weight than beaver barf.  Remember BB uses wood as the fiber and heavier resins than more modern polymers that use things like graphite and fiberglass that weigh less, plus I think it's also a fair bit thicker than magpul HGs IIRC.

I can tell you that the Zhukov forend will ruin the VZ.  It adds a mess of weight.  Had one on an AK and ditched it.  Looks cool but HEAVY.

Thats what I was afraid of. It does look really cool tho. I think ill go bonesteel in the front and decide about the rear.

I would agree.  BS is functional and light and for now looks to be the ONLY Option to provide cowitness.

The beaver barf hump beat my cheek to death using irons so I had to ditch.

That Im worried about, I tend to get migraines if my cheek gets pounded. Found that out shooting clays and learning to shoulder properly.

Are you using a compensator.  If so get rid of it, vzs work well with muzzle brakes, but anything that has too much "compensation" can cause significant cheek slap.  The worst were the slant comps that century was putting on them.

It came with this brake, I haven't gotten a chance to shoot mine yet, I just received it from my FFL Thursday.

The Czech brake is primarily a compensator albeit a hybrid brake/compensator.  Brakes are designed to mitigate recoil.  Compensators are designed to provide increased muzzle control, particularly during high rates of fire -- and in the case of this comp/"czech/slovak brake", during f/a fire.  Obiwan prob knows more than me about its full history, but IMO, it's fine to run occasionally if detachable and is a relatively cheap and easy and profitable for CSA/Czechpoint to produce and sell, but I have always disliked it for a permanent attachment.  Is it generally better than the muzzle nut for military use, yes.  Is it the best for anyone not regularly firing at high rates of fire?   No.

Do you have a recommendation for one? My Rifle is the Century model if that makes any difference. Im still learning the ins and outs of these cool rifles.

This is something I wish I would have considered as a stock for my VZ 58.  As you can see, the stock sits both straight and low, and I believe you can add risers.  I still might have gone with the SIG Minimalist, but this is nice.

Ensure you have 14x1 RH, not LH thread like AK -- some variance in early Vz2008s.

If so,

SF Brakes are likely going to be second-hand moving forward.

Zendl makes left and right hand comps and best option there, and some US sellers, at least occasionally.

Polenar has a variety of Vz58 brakes available, and I think they ship to US.

There are other Czech options, but more difficult to acquire.

The vortex flash hider is also solid -- make sure you get the non-extended version though if buying from Czechpoint.
