Feed Issues with New CZ TSO
« on: December 28, 2021, 11:00:39 AM »
Acquired a new CZ TSO .40 a month ago and have already been experiencing feed issues with Speer/Lawman .40 cal 165 grain FMJ flat nose ammo. The frequency is about one round jamming at the base of the feed ramp for every 8-10 rounds. Had a couple of seasoned range shooters tell me most semi-autos need a "breaking in period" of 500-600 rounds, but I need a seconds opinion here. All my early research into this CZ TSO indicates this magnificent firearm is expected to be functionally prefect out of the box. Does this sound like my TSO warrants a trip back to the factory? Would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions before I call Customer Service.

Thanks.

Got any other ammo to try? 180 gr. Etc?
165 bullet will have a short overall length. So the round as it feeds , since it’s short will have tendency to nose dive.
If you have heavier bullet, round will tend to be a little longer and may feed better.

Are you running stock magazines or have they been modified for competition?  Have you cleaned the magazines both inside and out?  I like to wax them (inside and out) to help keep them clean and feeding easier.  I also like to inspect the follower angle and make sure it is pushing up at the nose of the bullet slightly more.  If you haven't pulled them apart yet there could be factory preservative causing issues.

How dirty is the ammo your shooting?  Have you cleaned/inspected behind the extractor?  Leave it dry to help prevent the gunk buildup.  Make sure that there aren't any burr's on the extractor/breachface and that your ammo will slide up the face smoothly without any hiccup's.

Are there any burr's on the feedramp?  I had one on one of my TSO's that I had to file off.  Not sure how it got there but wasn't there new.  I also polish all my feedramps just to eliminate the concern.

Have you plunk tested your ammo to make sure it fits in the chamber?  This shouldn't be an issue but is easy to verify.

Cheers,
Toby

40 was designed around the 180 gr load.  Would try those after a through cleaning of both firearm and mags.  Have a couple of 40s that like 155s, 180s and even 200s, but do not like 165s.  No idea why.

Best wishes.

Thanks all. Great info. Fired today three different 165 grain ammo brands: Speer/Lawman, PMC, and Winchester. Only Winchester was jam free. Will try some Winchester 180 grain ammo and perform the suggested cleaning drills.
