Czechpoint VZ58s in stock at Atlantic
« on: December 30, 2021, 01:01:40 PM »
Just got an email from Atlantic with some interesting vz58s and thought I'd pass it along. These things are gettin' expensive!

Disclaimer - don't work there, and I've only bought ammo from them. But I like their sales videos :-)

Whatever they had appears to have already sold out.

Dang, they went fast. I guess that means the high price is not unrealistic. Glad I got mine 10 years ago...

Supply and demand.  Czechpoint/CSA artificially restricts supply resulting in increased prices...  Generally, they've always been $300-400 or so above what a fair market rate would be IMO.

Without that supply restrictions, it's my belief that we'd not only see reduced prices for weapons but also a much more robust aftermarket support...  But as is, we're stuck with what's always been the reality of effective monopolies.

Who suffers?  Consumers and Vz58 enthusiasts.

Who benefits?  No one, really.  Czechpoint and CSA could materially increase profits with higher volume according to my math even while lowering prices -- though I don't have any inside info re: their business model/expenses/etc.

The VZ 58 market is a cottage industry.  I'm sure CP optimizes for their business model which may simply be a 'lifestyle Small Business' - unless you tool up and take on those headaches you keep demand down and profit up with lower production and higher prices.  You develop the revenue you need, and live the lifestyle you are happy with.

Increasing production has its downsides for the producer - working weekends, holidays, risk, pressure, etc.

Heck - look at RS Regulate - they seem to have about the same cycle of products.  Out for several months.

Yes, in a sense, bad for us.  Less options, less accessories, etc.

CP and CSA share ownership, and (beyond manufacture) have a collective monopoly on import, distribution, and until recently retail in the US.  The Canadian market went dead over two years ago now.  There should be zero issue w/ production bandwidth -- just importation and distribution...

Whereas AFAIK, RS Regulate is a bootstrapped side hustle that is working to scale to exponentially increasing demand, while also dealing w/ COVID shutdowns.

I really like the VZ-58, saw that when they came back in stock. I really don’t need another though, unless a great, FTF price.
