Tristar's
« on: January 27, 2022, 01:36:45 PM »
I am sure this may have been asked but has Tristar quit importing handguns?

It looks like Tristar doesn't import the Canik any longer. Unless someone else is importing them (I am talking about CZ clones here)

Canik USA is a part of Century and seems to only deal with the polymer frames. It is possible the steel frame market is not as profitable as the polymer one.
Also, as the Turkish administration is asking exporters to exchange 25% of there foreign currency back to the Lira, those companies may have issues purchasing foreign steel without foreign currency.

Looks like I won't be getting a new TriStar T100 to go with my T120 anytime soon.
I suppose I'll have to look for a used-but nice T100.

Even though it has become my favorite firearm, I wish I would have just saved a little more money instead of trading my C-100 in on my P-07.  But back a few years ago there was almost no mod parts for the Tristar firearms like there are today. The only thing I did not like about it was the finish....if it was a polished chrome and not the satin cerakote like finish I probably would have waited and not traded it in.

I live in Missouri near Kansas City so I called Tri Star and was told that Canik has quit making
the CZ clone line so TriStar can not import them. TriStar has picked up the MetroArms line of
1911 style pistols to sell this year. Canik is only going to make the polymer line of pistols imported
thru Century Arms.  What the best option for a CZ clone now or do I try and find a used TriStar.

I know that not that long ago Tanfoglio and Sar made some. The IWI Baby Eagle is very similar to CZ also.

I figured that would probably be the case.  I'm still glad I bought my T120.

What the best option for a CZ clone now or do I try and find a used TriStar.

Best options are either the SAR Cz Clones or the Tanfoglio Pistols imported by the Italian Firearms Group ( IFG ).

Wow it looks like the CZ clone market has died.
Maybe it will make a comeback like the HiPower some day.
The two companies that jwc007 listed have a limited product listing with
more polymer frames than metal frames.
Come to think of it way does none of the new HiPower's have polymer frames?

I would not say it was dead, but certainly the market for DA/SA handguns has diminished considerably.
Polymer framed SA Striker fired 9mm handguns would now seem to dominate the Defensive Handgun Market.
I've not been immune to that trend either, as most of the Pistols I currently carry in my carry rotation are Polymer Framed Striker Fired Pistols.

There has been a bit of a resurgence in interest in DA/SA Handguns, but I'm not sure it's enough to change the current trend.

As for Metal vs Polymer, the Polymer Framed Pistols seem to be holding up well enough and are lighter and won't rust.
Still, I enjoy shooting my metal framed Pistols and am less concerned that they might break under use.

I agree with you all heartedly, but there are 2 companies who are highly invested into steel frames, and those are CZ and Tanfoglio. I don't see those going anywhere anytime soon. As for SAR (Sarsilmaz), it is Turkish, and right now who can tell what those companies are capable of producing.

Really happy that I bought the T-100 and T-120 a while back. Highly fond of both guns. Style and quality are excellent and they shoot lights out. Absolute keepers in my collection.
