cleaning suggestions
« on: May 16, 2022, 07:27:28 AM »
Hi folks

I bought  ( from CZC) a sp-01 ( kadet) conversion slide that was already  mated to a cz  75  frame. for  2 years( with basic field strip cleaning)  . shot great. all types of 22 lr ammo. zero issues. Noticed some light strikes lately and took the gun to a gunsmith. the report--LOTS of crud insid e  the frame.  firing pin and channel were basically clean.

I am looking for advice for  the future. I am looking to  clean out the crud  before having issues.

some suggestions  made already  were:

( afte r taking off  grips) --
1. carefully spray brake cleaner( non chlorinated)  wipe  dry and relube

2. use air compressor

or both.

normally, I  just use  gun cleaner like break free and a nylon brush but the gunsmith related crud in areas that I cannot reach that way.

what say you? what is the best way to clean out the  crud  with the least amount of disassembly . Trying to avoid damage to working parts and the frame.

If I get one that is really dirty inside I field strip it and spray the frame out with brake cleaner.

As you mentioned, making sure the metal gets a coat of oil/rust preventive lube on it after it dries is really important if you don't want it to rust on you.

Be sure to take it outside to spray it out.  Be sure to wear some monogoggles to keep from getting that stuff in your eyes.

If you don't wear latex/rubber gloves and get the cleaner on your hands it would be a good idea to first wash your hands and then put some skin lotion on them as the cleaners can really dry your skin out.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
