How to destroy an otherwise great magazine
« on: June 01, 2022, 09:10:42 AM »
The plastic followers for the VZ 58 mags (you know the 922r ones) are crap.  The tab that activates the bolt catch is too small and feeble and does NOT activate it and removes an advantage to the weapon.  Be advised that the otherwise GREAT and better CSA polymer mags sold in the US have this crap feature.  You'll have to buy military followers to have a fully functional VZ 58 mag.

Heck - even the cheap (and not as durable) AC Unity polymer mags have a great follower that works perfectly.

No problem here.
My two polymer mags from CZ USA have been perfect.

Over 2,500 rds, have bern used with this pair of mags, with zero issues in the mags or the Czechpoint rifle.
The bolt carrier always locks open when either mag is empty.

The gun was “ NIB “ in spring 2019.
A piece of each cardboard ammo box is kept in a large baggy, eliminating guesswork regarding total ammo consumption.

Bought 4 of these mage recently.  None of the plastic followers work to lock back the bolt.

FWIW, I have 2 AC Unity mags and neither lock back the follower.

Investigating -- NOS Czech Aluminum mag springs are ~50% longer than the AC Unity springs, and by spring loops it's even worse -- 24 on the OEM mag and 13 on the AC Unity (counting each loop protrusion including first and last along the rear spline), which is little more than 1/2 the amount of spring material due to AC Unity having bigger loops/more space between loops.  The Czech OEM aluminum mag body is only ~1/2" longer.

that's probably why with finger pressure I can't push down the bolt catch portion of the OEM mags but can w/ the AC Unity mag springs that lack enough power to actuate the LSBHO...

Are the aluminum mags Czechpoint's selling still NOS surplus and do their springs match genuine surplus in quality?
And how do the transparent mags springs compare to to OEM aluminum?  The same spring?

*AC Unity mags also wobble more side to side than OEM aluminum, but that's not the cause of the LSBHO malfunction.

AK or VZ 58 Mag springs should both work - correct?  (Yes the ACU mag springs are shorter).

The ACU mags DO have a superior tab on the top of the lock back - MUCH better than even the standard mags.

No idea.  I'm happy w/ my aluminum mags.

I taken to using ACU mags for malfunction drills.  Have a buddy load a random # of rounds and wait until click no bang.  Address.  Beats using snap caps or dummy rounds.
