CZ PCR vs P01

Hello all,

New member here with a few new guy questions. I guess I should get ready to get flamed due to some dumb questions as I learn about CZ’s.

FWIW…I’m not a newb to firearms. Have and still own 1911’s, Sig, Beretta, Glocks, etc. just new to the CZ world.

So today’s question is there any major difference in the PCR model vs the standard P01/Omega beside weight and light rail? Is there anything majorly different on internals or either prone to specific issues versus the other?

I’m considering these to add to my carry rotation. Either would be sent to CGW or CZCS for their magic.

P01 is basically a PCR with rail and a few other small differences.  Omega is very different internally, parts are not interchangeable.

Other than the rail, the sight options on the P01 are very good - NOT so on the PCR.

The PCR has a Loaded Chamber Indicator.  The slide stop levers look different.

Like others mentioned, if you're OCD about your rear sight covering the shallow notch of the PCR slide, then rear sight options are less.

 While there are differences beyond the rail (most already pointed out) it basically comes down to whether you think you'll use something that rail mounts or not.

If you will or think you might = Get P-01

If not = PCR

I like the looks of the PCR better and I think it is a bit thinner as well. Also like the loaded chamber indicator, however the diminutive sights suck. Have no idea why CZ is supplying more of their new guns with it. I saw a new P-01 Omega at my LGS with the same crappy small sights recently!
I replaced my PCR sights with the OEM standard larger Full Size CZ 75 sights and they look great. The small, extremely shallow flat in front of the rear sight doesn't bother me at all, actually I prefer it. They are both very accurate and ergonomic guns.

Also booth the PCR and P-01 Omega have serrated front and back straps [frame grip] whereas the standard P-01 and CZ 75 Compact don't. A big difference in grip control.

The std P-01 has serrated front and back straps as well. Most would agree vertical serrations offer virtually nothing to improve recoil control.

My P-01 steel version has no serrated grips.

Not true at all. There are several good options for PCR sights from Dawson and CZ Custom now. Also you can use any sight standard dovetail CZ sight on the PCR if you can live with the flat section ahead of the rear sight machined into the slide. This has been discussed too many times to list.

What everyone else said, I have a P-01 Omega and I'll never get rid of it. I have no experience with the PCR sorry no input on that one.

simpleman. you really ought to try out the PCR, you'll love it even more than your P-01 omega! As long as you get larger sights of course. I wonder what size of sights your P-01 omega has. Mine had the larger 3 dot white sights. CZ is now shipping them with the tiny PCR sights.

I have both.

I agree that the P-01's sights are better, the PCR's sights are snag-free.

I shoot the P-01 more but carry the PCR more.

This seems like another "Ginger VS MaryAnn" choice.
