Talk to me about the Tanfoglio Defiant Limited Master
« on: September 23, 2022, 04:39:40 PM »

https://patriotdefense.com/tanfoglio-defiant-limited-master-ifg/

Hi all! I’m new here, but was referred to this forum from another as a more active community for CZ and clone pistols like Tanfoglio.

I’m taking a serious look at the Defiant Limited Master as a pistol to purchase as a base for a build project in the next few weeks. Purpose of the gun will be a do-all home defense, range gun, and eventually hunting and competition work horse.

What needs to be done to the gun out of the box? Are Henning base pads the best choice for mag extensions? Does anyone still make a flush slide stop pin that deletes the slide release lever like the EGW piece? Who’s the best shop for tuning/custom gunsmithing?

Also due to my interest in eventually employing it for hunting and some good old fashioned peer-pressure goading, I’m leaning fairly heavily towards purchasing one in 10mm. Does the platform have any difficulty holding up to the higher energy levels of the Ten Milly?

Anything you all can advise/suggest is greatly appreciated, thank you very much!

A 10mm for a sidearm (last resort self defense) in the bush is the latest rage and for a good reason.  A hard cast 10mm will hurt even a Brown Bear (I'm told).  Not sure about suitability for actual hunting with this pistol, but hey, love is in the eye of the beholder...

If you like the .40 S&W bullet also, EAA can sell you a .40 barrel that will drop right into your Defiant 10mm and now you essentially have two pistols.  I believe you can use the same mags and recoils spring in both calibers - I would verify all this with EAA (the importer).

One of my students did this with his Tanfo Match Elite 10mm and loves the versatility!

It’ll still spend far less time in the bush than it will on my nightstand or at the range, but it’s certainly a nice perk to have that option.

The gun won’t be built to any particular competition division spec, just modified to my liking and wants. The goal is to create the most broadly capable, do-all general purpose handgun possible within a reasonable footprint.

It’s a philosophy I’ve been using to build and tinker with Sig’s P320 platform for several years:

I’m fairly confident I’ve reached the limits of the capability of the P320 though, as it keeps breaking in a particular unusual manner. The Limited Master looks like a good option for a new base pistol to continue experimenting with this use philosophy

If I could get it in DA/SA I’d already own it. For me SAO is not what I want for defense.

If you prefer a DA/SA then get the IFG Tanfoglio Defiant Stock Master instead.  That SAO on the Limited Master is awesome though!  8)

My understanding is the Stock Master is basically the exact same gun just in DA/SA. Same bull barrel, slide, railed frame, etc. The only real difference beside the trigger is the Stock Master doesn’t come drilled and tapped for an optic mount, though presumably it can be done easily enough

I have one in 45acp, it is my favorite range pistol, and very accurate. 8)

There appear to be several all over Gunbroker right now, you can take your pick on caliber

If you decide to get a Tanfoglio in 10mm, I'd recommend getting a Henning Conefit Guiderod and a heavier recoil spring.  I put them in my 10mm and 9x23.  The guiderod is a better design to help minimize wear.

This is the first time someone’s made this suggestion but it certainly sounds relevant. What’s different about the design that helps minimize wear and tear?

I have seen others suggest swapping for a heavier spring, somewhere around 20 lbs. Does anyone know what the stock spring weight is?

I agree with the use of the Henning Conefit guide rod being the way to go.  I believe the stock recoil spring is 14 lb.  Link to a video showing the difference between the factory guide rod and the Henning.
