Did I break my CZ 75 trigger return spring?
« on: September 24, 2022, 09:39:52 AM »
Went to the range recently and went to dry before putting live rounds down the pipe. The trigger did not return forward after I pulled the trigger. I could reset the trigger manually with my finger but then I have to repeat the process. When looking into the frame, the leg end of the spring looked like it had slipped out of the frame and was sticking out of its notch inside the frame. I do dry-fire a lot. Does this mean I broke the trigger return spring?

Edit- removed the trigger and found that the spring is broken.

If you broke through TRS, then while you're at it, you should also look at replacing the firing pin retaining pin

Usual recommendations are to use a CGW trigger return spring and floating trigger spring as well.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

You've run into the problem of the design of the TRS.  Yes, sounds like you broke it.  THEY CAN last quite some time, but there are two issues:

1.  If you dry fire a bunch (which people who need to remain proficient in DA should do) this puts more wear on them.
2.  You should look at replacing the TRS with a CGW model - it should last longer.  If I had time to log in dry fires, I'd have a better handle on it, but some can last 5000 pulls, some 1500 in my experience.
3.  Some say oiling the TRS helps it last.  I believe this might help.

If you look at the TRS it has a design that lends itself to breakage vice other designs.  IMHO that is the source of the problem.

OTOH - There are some on this site that have NEVER broken a TRS - don't know how many dry fires they do, but they have not broken any.

I do think if you DON'T dry fire much at all, it may not be an issue.  I do and have broken plenty.

Yeah, I dry fire my 75B quite regularly in DA and SA. Only way you're staying proficient with DA is if you practice. I'm currently working with another forum member to buy some extra trigger springs off of him so I have several spares in case I have another breakage.

Only other time I broke a trigger return spring was on a Beretta 92FS which I dry fire a lot too. That was a little easier to replace. I haven't replaced a CZ 75 TRS yet, but now I will be soon once my new trigger and TRS comes in!

Thanks, but I did that FPRP upgrade already. Unfortunately, I did break a CGW TRS. I'll be getting more soon.
