What made you pick a CZ PCR or P-01?
« on: September 25, 2022, 05:43:06 PM »
Specifically, what made you pick either the PCR or P-01 over the other model? I imagine the P-01 might be more useful due to its light rail that allows you to mount a light, but I'm not sure how needed a weapon mounted light is for a CCW pistol.

Ended up going with the P-01. The fact that it fits some of the range holsters I already has for the SP-01 didn’t hurt. Also didn’t want the loaded chamber indicator. Also the P-01 uses a more common sight cut.

Was looking for the PCR because I wanted a CCW that was as slim as possible. Didn't care about the light rail. Also I found a great deal on it.

Good to know about the P01 and SP01 holster compatibility. I forgot that the PCR has a different sight cut, but is that for the rear or front sights on the PCR? I think the PCR rear sight cut was a little weird, but I could be wrong.

Rear sight cut is the one that is not common. I will say the stock sights on the P-01 are not great. Change them out with CZ Custom sights and you will be much happier.

Availability. Saw the PCR available first. Now I'm lucky enough to have both!

PCR = Slightly better for Carry  (low snag sights, loaded chamber indicator, better shape for holster)
P01 = Slightly better for Home Defense (rail for light/laser)

But either is DEFINITELY SUITABLE for the other.

I would echo previous comments and add a little bit on related logic.  I kept the P01s as my "primary" CZ 75 variants because:

1) P01 sight cuts mean there are a wider variety of available aftermarket sights/night sights (yes, you'll want to replace the stock sights).

2) The rail provides flexibility- while I got the P01s primarily as CCWs for my wife and I, they can also do double duty for home defense in bedside safes. So, a mounted light is useful. As well, when road tripping, I can mount the lights for nighttime during hotel stays etc.

3) At one point I had both a P01 and PCR.  I found the P01 was no more difficult for me to conceal than a PCR.  It is nearly identical in size to a G19.

So, the added flexibility and "right size" of the P01 seemed to drive it as the "best" choice for me.

Having said all of that - you can't go wrong with either of them.

Good luck with your decision!

Cheers

Looked/handled both at my LGS 3 wks ago, initially intended PCR but left with P-01 – never say never (the need for a rail). Saw its first 150rds last week and made me smile, now the ‘problem’ is I’ll be looking to pick up the PCR soon to complete the pair.
No sight mods until I get at least 500 through (and may start with the front blade), and certainly no action mods until 1K – I keep my CCW triggers OEM.
Really they’re the same, question of preference – or which one first.

the sight cuts/dimensions for all CZ's 75's, are identical, front and rear

I have both- a P01 Omega and a PCR.  Both are similar, & I use same holster for both,  I enjoy them equally.  Both have been to the Cajun spa which made great guns better IMO.

In choosing between the 2, it comes down to personal preferences

- do you want/ not want a loaded chamber indicator? If so PCR is way to go, if not P01
- Do you want a rail? If so P01 is what you want, if not, PCR
- Sight options are more available with the P01 unless you are willing to accept the exposure of the “shelf” dove tails are the same iirc.

There are no bad choices between the 2.  Get either one and it’ll serve you well.  Get both and you can have the best of both worlds
Like a midget at a urinal, I'll have to keep on my toes

the sight cuts/dimensions for all CZ's 75's, are identical, front and rear.

PCR has its own unique cut.

The feel in the hand fit/balance and I wanted a hammer fired DA/SA pistol. The P-01 Omega is a keeper IMHO.

I bought my first P-01 initially because that's what the store had. They didn't have a PCR. But I also liked -- and still like -- the flexibility of having the rail. Now I have two P-01s and a D Compact with rail. One the of P-01s is my CCW and the other is my night stand gun with a TLR-7.

Lots of good info here, from people who actually have one or both. I am leaning towards the PCR because I don't intend to use the rail and think the rail takes away from the looks. But it's great to hear most who have both like them equally.
