Differences in CZ97 and Shadow 2 firing mechanism?
« on: October 08, 2022, 01:09:28 PM »
I had an unpleasant experience with CGW where the gunsmith said my 97BD had a "perfect" trigger, and I
disagree.  He said that the Shadow pistols had a different setup, and they would be able to produce a trigger
close to what a 1911 provides. I have a Shadow 2 and and a Shadow 2 Orange, and both have less than
the trigger I have with my 1911 or my Tanfoglio, although the  Tan had a trigger job done on it.
Are the mechanisms different?  Am I wasting my time with CZ in 9mm?  I like the guns, just not the lack of
a wall in trigger, especially in the 97's. 8)

The 75/97B's have a firing pin block, the Shadows do not. So yes, a shorter pull can be had with a Shadow. The same can be had with a B, but you have to delete the firingng pin block. CGW may be unwilling to do that due to exposure to liability.

The lack of wall is a result of the hammer hook/sear geometry.  What hammer did you go with when cgw reworked your 97b?  The cz competition hammer is more vague than the cgw race hammer.

If you don't like the feel of the shadow 2 orange,  then maybe cz isn't for you?  The cgw race hammer will make the SA trigger more crisp/creep free and have a slightly more pronounced wall before the break.

When cgw says the trigger is perfect, I'm guessing they are referring to the timing of the action.   What cgw makes and sells are components that really clean up the trigger "slop".  The pre and post break trigger pull movement.

As mentioned the shadow series of pistols will have a shorter overall trigger pull and reset due to the lack of firing pin block.   That is the only difference between the actions.

Cheers,
Toby

Thanks guys-I will  have my gunsmith look at the S2O and see what he can do with it. Looks like my 2 97's
are due for a sale. 8)

I don't think the 97 BD can use the CGW sear. That could explain why your BD doesn't have that magical crisp break that many refer to when talking about their safety models.

This is true, but the OP also complains about the break in his S2 and S2O both of which are obviously safety models. Nothing equals a good 1911 trigger, it's an unreasonable expectation.
