Hi, I'm trying to get my sear cage out. I've been following this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9l8tEdWj1Q

I was able to tap out the sear cage pin and tap in the slave pin (right side of gun to the left). However, my sear cage will not come out of the gun. In retrospect I may have made a mistake but because the sear cage would not come out, I thought I needed to tap the slave pin in a bit further to clear the frame. Now it just seems kind of stuck... maybe a couple of MM inside the frame. Any ideas? Thanks

Is the Hammer Spring removed from the pistol?

Is the Decocking Lever removed from he pistol?

Have you tried driving the slave pin back the other way?

There is not much that can hold the Sear Cage in place once the Sear Cage Pin is removed. I would make sure that the above three things are covered, then give the Hammer a jiggle to make sure it is not hung up, then give the Sear Cage a light tap with a punch. A Light tap, remember the frame is made of soft aluminum.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Hi thanks so much for the response. Hammer spring and decocking levers are out, and I was just able to get the sear cage slave pin back out of the gun. When it was still in I tried jiggling everything to see if I could get the cage out, no luck. How far in does the sear slave pin need to go? And the round side of the pin should go in first from the right side, correct?

The slave pin should be driven into the Right side of the frame, opposite to the side with the Decocking lever.

The slave pin should sit fully inside the Sear Cage. So that it will not prevent Sear cage removal. The slave pin is slightly narrower than the Sear Cage. Remember that the purpose of the slave pin is to allow you to remove the Sear Cage without the Sear Cage parts falling out. So it's only purpose is to retain sear cage parts.

Worst case, the Sear Pin can be driven out without the salve pin, but the parts will come out of the Sear Cage and it will require that the Sear Cage is reassembled.

I find that slight pressure with your thumb pressing downward on the cage (toward the frame/magwell) will allow the slave pin to fully enter the cage properly.   This also works for inserting the sear pin when reassembling.

As mentioned, the slave pin needs to be in the cage and not hung up in the frame on either side.

If your installing a cgw srs kit, you might as well just pull apart the cage.  Some folks like to do it in a bag to catch all the springs.

Cheers,
Toby

Hi, thanks everyone for the feedback! I really appreciate it.

Yeah I ended up just throwing aside the sear slave pin and letting the sear cage components fall out into my hand. Not the end of the world, like you mentioned I'll be installing some Cajun parts so I would've ended up disassembling it anyway. And it'll make parts of the sear cage a bit more easy to polish.

I think I made some decent progress tonight... got the new hammer assembly put together at least. Probably a little more polishing tonight and then I'll be putting it all back together tomorrow.

Sounds like a good plan, which puts you way ahead of allot of folks completing the process for the first time.

If you run into issues with the Decocker Sear Cage reassembly here is a great reference.

Decockers are hard the first time . Mine took me 3hrs with polishing and re assembly.(and 2 of those lifter arm springs, they always fly out😆)
Cajun gunworks website has great videos on putting sear cage back together .good luck with your project.and let’s see pics when you are done😎

Ha, I hear ya. Putting back together has been intense, but it's been a great learning experience. And I'm not even done... it took forever to finally get the lifter spring situated. But I got it in, checked to ensure the lifter had proper tension, all good. Then I installed the sear, trigger spring, etc. Function checked the gun, SA, DA, decocking all worked perfectly. Then I toggled the lifter and realized there was no longer any tension on it. I guess the lifter spring popped out when I'd replaced the sear slave with the actual pin. Frustrating, but what can you do. Lifter spring is nowhere to be found, so I'll be ordering another one along with some spares. Not a huge deal, it'll be easier to install the second time around. And I'm just happy enough to know that I didn't mess up the rest of the sear assembly haha.
