Racking the Slide
« on: November 25, 2022, 05:03:11 PM »
I placed a red dot sight on my Shadow 2 and found that it is sure easy to rack the slide by using the heel of my hand at the bottom front of the sight and the slide to push the slide back. I am using a steel mounting plate from CZ and a Holosun sight, will this cause any harm or damage to the sight?

Depends on the red dot, but Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics racks red dots off two by fours during testing regularly. Generally without issue.

Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I've never heard of that being a problem.  I have a Shadow 2 + DPP and I always grab the reddot when racking.  As the gun heats up from shooting, the front slide serrations can burn your hand, so I don't see another way of doing it.

Also the CZ75 and variants are especially hard to rack due to the slide design.  This is a trade off to allow for a lower bore axis among other benefits.

Thanks so very much. the video by Eric Kent sure cleared up any questions I had. The dot I am using is the 507c-x2. I will never by that ruff on my sight.

I brace my hand against a Holosun when I rack the slide.  No way that's rougher than the recoil.

Thanks, I have been using the sight for the first round after replacing the sight with the optic, This is working out very well for me and so much faster.

I’d be afraid of scratching the lens or cracking it

Can't see damaging the aluminum frame or the lens with your hand/skin.

I showed my wife the Sage video this morning to ease her mind about using the red dot to give her some leverage/grip when racking the slide to the rear.  Her pistol does have one of those Holoson red dots on it though.  That's what the Sage Dynamics video is shown being tested.  Pretty darn tough sides.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Just keep your fingers off the glass.  The oils can really distort the dot.

Your Holosun can handle it.  It's designed and built to withstand recoil which is way more violent than racking by a human.  Rack away....
