Hello everyone, I looking at getting a 527 Carbine, but I'm pretty much set on .223, but I'm curious to hear some opinions and experiences from people who have them. I've read a lot of posts from those who own the little CZ Carbines in 7.62x39, but it seems like the .223 posts are rare. Anyone have any input on these? Accuracy?
I want to go with .223 mainly because I will probably use it mostly for longer range plinking, and some as a walk-around hunting rifle. Being that I will probably do a lot of shooting with it, I likely won't do much reloading for it, and I already  have an AR15, so this keeps me from having to stock a new caliber. I don't plan on scoping it though, as I really like the heavy iron sights they put on these rifles and there's something about the classic feel of that light but well made little rifle with open sights and no scope.
Any comments and experiences are appreciated. Thanks

i have a 527 american in .223.  the action and barrel get much better after a few boxes.  have not found any milsurp that does not shoot well and bought some federal TB to hunt.  the accuracy is outstanding and practice is cheap and non-punishining.  a month later i bought a 550 FS in 270 so here is my review and suggestions.  jgsales.com in shot gun news advertises the 527 for $480 and rings for $50 (get the cz rings).  DO NOT GET THE WALNUT !  the american weighs .33# more but you can get a laminated stock which is beautiful.  the walnut is a POS.  i would gladly have paid more for decent wood.  the picture in the catalog is as real as the picure of a bigmac is.  they will not even talk to you about it.  the customer service...well there is no customer service, just one overworked and pissed off gunsmith named mike.  i pray nothing goes wrong with my rifles cause i do not believe they will fix it.  see other posts to confirm this.  as to the scope i have mounted a burris 4-14 ballistic plex short mag which makes this combo an esthetic and functional joy.  the scope came from bearbasin.com for $326 shipped.  get a bushnell magnetic boresighter and a recticle leveler from segway should cost around $55.  so there it is i love the 527,  despise the 550 and fear for the future should there be problems.   i will never buy another rifle from a company that treats their customers this way.  let us know what happens.

I have the .223 carbine. I've been pleased with it but a word of warning, the iron sights are total crap. Now yeah they are usuable but they are not adjustable at all (dispite the claims of my manual). Mine are about 5cm low and to the right at only 20m. Dispite that, the gun itself is very accurate. I'm in the process of sticking a 4-12x scope on it but need to find some suitable scope mounts first.

The trigger is another short comming. In single stage mode the thing is total crap. As a set trigger it is very nice and crisp but I can't say I'm a fan of those. Too much work IMHO.

Overall the gun is nice and also very forgiving on ammunition type. I use 55gr 5.56x45mm out of mine without any problems all the time.

My 527 223 is GREAT!

1. The iorn sights worked well!
2. Scoped it works well.
3. It shoots the Ultramax 50 grain AWESOME!  Have targets no internet BS.

What is NOT to LIKE!

Go with the 527 American, lam stock, CZ rings (or good steel rings). Smaller scope, 2-7, 3-9, 4-12 with a 40mm or smaller objective.

Well, I'm sorry if you fellas do not feel satisfied with your rifles.  I now own a CZ75B in .40 cal, and a 527 LUX in .223 caliber.  Both are outstanding designs and function flawlessly.  The trigger on the rifle is a dream, truly a dream.  The set mode takes some getting used to, but the standard trigger breaks cleanly, and the rifle shoots where pointed.  

My next one will be one of the .22 long rifles, though I am not convinced that I'll use the set trigger feature of the 453, so I'll probably get the 452.  Either would be nice.

I have not had to call on warranty or anything like that, so I cannot comment on customer service, other than to say that when I ordered rubber grip panels and night sights, they were in my hands by the end of the week.  Pretty prompt service IMO.
