CZ P-07 Front insert upgrade?
« on: December 13, 2022, 10:40:46 AM »
I'm looking for information on front "Insert" upgrade introduced in the 2nd Generation CZ P-07 and P-09 Pistols which eliminates the Slide Stop Lever Spring being pinned to the polymer frame.  The new spring is held in place by 2 adjacent cross pins at the front end of the insert with the original the L shaped portion trimmed off.  Looks to add a 2nd cross pin about an 1/8" behind the front cross pin and trap the spring rigidly between the pins and clip off the L shaped end of the current spring.  Ref the 18 minute point in link   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItBrQ8ADZSY  of a 2nd generation CZ P-07 .40 (40 S&W) pistol.  My interest is in replacing the Insert in my first Generation Model (CZ P-07 Duty .40) with this construction.  The end of my Spring tends to back out of it's hole in the side of the frame that it seats into and creates a bulge in the frame.  Can anyone provided information on interchangeability and where to source?  Thks, Larry

This  turns out to be the stock OEM 2nd generation P07/P09 front insert assembly (probably something everyone already knew).  It is a drop-in for 1st generation pistols and is used in both 9mm and 40 S&W pistols.

I now have one and will use it if the slide stop spring continues to be a problem in my 1'st generation pistol.  The short right angle leg cocked and pushing the frame away from the front insert and had created a bulge where it fits into the frame when I acquired the gun.  I assume the commonly observed separation gap between the insert and frame is caused by the inserted rocking back and forth from impact loads on the the slide stop pin and the slide nose  bumping the into frame - anybody know what's really creating the bulging?

I re-angled the leg to fully seat into the cylinder that is pressed into the frame and the longer leg now runs straight from front to back, pushed the frame back into it's original shape and will see how it holds up over time.  Thks, Larry

The slide stop spring popping out did cause some bulge issues. CZ replaced ALOT of the early DUTY pistols for frame bulge problems along with some reliability issues which included the trigger bar spring breaking free of the frame and causing a dead trigger. CZ revised the polymer formulation on the 2nd gen pistols and along with changes to the inserts they cured the problems of the earlier guns. DUTY models with a "B" prefix to the serial number had improvements to fix the early issues. Pistols with an "A" prefix are the ones that had the vast majority of problems.
