Dry fire cz 457
« on: December 18, 2022, 01:06:02 PM »
It’s my understanding because of the shape of the firing pin the cz 457 can be dry fired is this a true statement?

My mistake cz doesn’t recommend dry firing. The reason for the shape is to help minimize vibrations when the firing pin hits the rim of the case.

If you read around a bit you'll find that many folks 'modify' the firing pin so it doesn't strike 'on the rim', but just inside.  This is for better primer ignition, Not to avoid the chamber rim.  Basically using a fine stone to slowly take off a few thous at a time until a good strike avoids the rim.

I just wanted to say the 'orange Pachmyer' snap caps are very soft and after 4-5 uses the "rim" falls off and I have to push the remainder back thru the action.  The 'Red' Tipton ones last longer but the plastic is brittle and the rims will get chewed up pretty soon too.  My best suggestion is to look on forums for some that are made with brass cases.  I 'lost' the link to one guy I had found, but theere should be others out there . . .
PS - I should add, this is in my CZs.  Some rifles don't lock-up as tight and the 'oranges' will last longer, but they'll still fall apart sooner than the Tiptonss.

I have a set of the a-zoom and they have held up well. Can also use hollow wall anchors.  Real cheap at your local big box store.

The A-zooms are NOT snap-caps - says so on 'their' description on a-zon.  They'll protect the chamber rim, but NOT your firing pin.  They're "... hard-anodized'.  Many of the anchors will NOT cycle if you have several in a mag.  That's why I recommend the Tiptons or some with brass bodies.  The brass will eventually get worn out but should last quite a while.

Those orange ones are the Pachmeyer that 'fall apart ' after a few shots of dry fire, Not the A-zoom.  In my MTR they only lasted 5-6 shots, the rim falls off and I had to push the remains out with a cleaning rod.  In my 'other guns' they last a bit longer, but Not Much.
The A-zoom are one clik back on that link's address- the blue aluminum ones.

If I dry fire I use a spent casing for about 10-15 try’s then put in another spent casing.  Don’t know where I picked this up, but it seems to work for me
