How deeply can a sight be cut into the rear of an SP-01 Shadow?
« on: December 28, 2022, 02:33:37 PM »
I'm planning a project on an SP-01 Shadow and I'd like to mill out for a new rear sight, preferably a Bomar-style adjustable.

Just how deep is it safe to cut before hitting some vital part?

The dovetail dimensions diagram (which I can't figure out how to attach), under Low Mount, suggests 0.193". Does that sound right?

There is an old post about milling a Novak dovetail on an SP01:

I know for my 507k footprint on my SP01 it was milled a full .200” deep so there should be plenty of available material to mill on the slide.

Also I remember CGW used to offer a milling service for the Novak cut but it looks like it’s no longer on the website. So I feel like there are a number of Novak cut CZ’s floating around. Not sure about Bomar’s though.

That is good info. If there’s .200” available, I can work toward that.

Too bad the guy with the Novak cut headed for .230” never completed the thread. I wonder if .230” is OK?
