Anybody reload for 6.5x55?
« on: September 18, 2005, 11:50:54 PM »
Hi, I also posted this question in the reloading page, but I wanted to get as many responses as possible.  Do any of you reload for the 6.5x55, and if so, do you have any particular load that is your favorite?  I'm thinking of using 129 grain Hornady SST's, but if any of you can recommend something better, I'm all ears.  By the way, this will be used in a 550FS for hunting antelope and whitetail deer.

Thanks,
  Sontez

I have been very happy with a 140 gr NoslerPartion or a 140 gr Hornady Interlock over 46 grains of Reloader 22.This is in Lapua cases with a W-W Mag primer, probly don't need the mag primer but I won't argue with the accuracy I get.
Please work up to this load with caution as tho it is safe in my rifle it may not be in yours!

Hope this helps!
John

Awesome, I'll have to try it out! Start lower and work up to it of course! I've heard that using mag primers can be benificial if hunting in real cold climates; burns hotter so you maintain your velocity.  Thanks again!!

I have loaded the 129 Interlock for years. It absolutely knocks the pee-wadded out of the local blacktail. IMR 4350 is my powder of choice.

Thanks Dean! I might have to try that on the next batch of ammo I load. My last load was 129 grain Hornady SST, 45.6 grains H4831. So far it's really accurate on targets, but the true test will be this weekend on antelope! Once again, thanks for the suggestion, keep them coming!:D
