CZ 550 Excellent 30-06
« on: October 09, 2005, 03:03:58 AM »
Anyone ever shoot or see one.  I'd like to get one but I've been told by my local CZ dealer that CZ has an agreement with Berreta not to import this model>: >: >:   CZ e-mailed me and said that I could get it from my distributor.  What's the deal???  I want to shoot iron sights and I want 30-06!!  I don't want a Sako or Tikka...

I've seen quite a few here in Montana. Very nice rifle at a great price. If you want to shoot with iron sgihts, you'll have to get the 550FS or the 550 Lux, both of which have a European style comb called a hogback. This comb is lower than the typical comb you would find on another rifle such as a Remington or Winchester. This means that if you can't get low mount rings, you won't be able to get a solid cheek weld on the stock when you shoot. This isn't a severe problem, I've gotten used to it from shooting my 550FS, you just have to practice so that mounting a gun with this style of comb becoms natural. The 550 American comes with your typical style of comb and ring height is not an issue, however it doesn't have iron sights. Whatever you go with, good luck. You can't go wrong with a CZ!

I've never seen a 550 Excellent and I believe the only
option, now, is the 550 Full Stock.  CZ-USA dropped the
550 Lux, beginning with the 2004 catalog.  Hopefully,
some Lux models will be imported in the future for those
of us that prefer to have iron sights on our rifles.

In fact, it would be great to see the pop up peep sight
that the earlier ZKK 600 series rifles had.  The peep
sights might work well with some other models, and be an
especially good match with the shorter barreled Full Stock models.

are appreciated.  The 550 Excellent seems to be a cut above with floated barrel and jeweled bolt (see attached webpage ...    www.czub.cz/index.php?p=3...10&lang=en      ).  I could have a custom rifle built, but I've got the bug for this rifle.  Awful when that carrot's right out of reach!!!!

You might want to check out some of the online auction sites such as Gunbroker.com, Auctionarms.com, etc.,  I know how frustrating it is to know what you want, but not be able to find it. Best of luck to you, let us know if you find one!
