CZ 550 Laminate Varmint 22-250 Ejection Problem
« on: July 08, 2005, 11:02:22 PM »
Hi Guys,
I am new to this board and it really has some good information on it about the CZ rifles. I am an owner of three rifles and I am waiting to but a .204 as soon as the gun shop I go to gets them in.

But anyway I do have a problem with my 22-250.  It is an excellent shooter but the bolt does not like to eject the  shells once they have been fired.  Has anyone else experianced this?? if so, I do I correct it??  It looks like part of the bolt just isn't grabbing the shell. FRED  I have seen you on Rimfire Central is their a way to fix this??

Thanks Guys.....coyotejoe

(Love them CZs and the Colorado Rocky Mountains)

Coyote,

I had one for an hour but it fed and ejected poorly, so I returned it straightaway......I feel it's due to cz trying to cheap out and make a 30/06 length action work for the .308 length cartridges.

I will now only own cz's in there mini mauser 527's, and there standard 30/06 type rifles and there magnums (of which I own 5).

The CZ-550 series are Mauser based so their not the dainty kind of rifle(in otherwords: cycle your rifle briskly since it's stiff), cycle in one motion do'nt stop near the rear.

If this fails the owner's manual comes with a parts blow-up. Locate where the ejector, spring & related parts are. Try to figure if the ejector hook is baddly machined or if spring is too weak(the probable cause, CZ spring are good for the dumpsters, they loose strenght with time). You can replace these with O.E.M. parts but I would highly recommend Wolff gunsprings as replacement if these are faulty.

CZ not mfgr. a short action is due ENTIRELY to Brno's(old models) short action not fonctioning flawlessly, old Brno's were in reality mfgr. by CZ, so they were fully aware of problem at hand. I have a few short actions(they were great), and short cartridged in mid-size action(CZ-550s). All work flawlessly :)

As far as I can tell, that's not a flaw, it's a feature.  A good friend of mine just purchased the same gun and it's the same way.  It stands to reason that it would be that way seeing as how the gun was designed.  The gun was primarily designed to be shot from a bench, and not an off hand quick shot field position, so they made it where it doesn't fling the shells out.  It extracts them for you and leaves them so that you can put them back in your box and reload them.

I hope that helps and that it makes sense.

Thanks Kingfisher,
I did notice that it pulls the shells out and leaves them at rest above the magazine. I was looking for the shells to fling completely out of the way.  Does anyone else make rifles that do this as well (Just curious)  Is this a standard for bench shootrs?

Thanks for the respond....:D

Joe, I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, yes, this is a standard thing for benchrest/varmint type guns.  If you look closely at the bolt on your laminate, you'll notice there is no ejector on it at all, only the extractor... and yes to answer your question, there are other mfg's that make them this way.

Anyway, I hope you're enjoying your 550 laminate.

I'm just going to jump in here since I want to get a CZ varmint. Are all three models without ejector. If so that sucks. I don't do bench at all. It would be for hunting. Can we have an ejector installed? I'm interested in the Kevlar model.
