CZ TS2 adjustable rear sight compatibility
« on: February 13, 2023, 08:30:20 AM »
Hi.

I've got a CZ TS2 (base model). It's got a fixed rear sight. As of now, I'm mostly doing bullseye shooting with it. As many of you probably know, most of bullseye shooters set their pistols' sights so they have to aim at the bottom of the black square (6 o'clock position).

To do this, I have to get myself an adjustable rear sight. I thought my biggest concern would be just getting the old sight out and putting the new one in, but as I experienced yesterday - I can take out the rear sight even with my thumbs (after unscrewing it). Now, when I started looking for a sight, my concern is: the height of the front sight. Many of the offerings specify that the front sight has to be Xmm tall. And that's an issue for me, because I really really don't want to swap out the front sight - it requires drilling, I'm scared and I don't really have a gunsmith in my area to do it for me.

Now, I don't have really precise tooling for this, but I think that the front sight on the CZ TS2 (base model, don't know about other ones - but looking at some YT videos, I think they are different) is either 5.5mm or 6mm.

Let's look at some of the offerings (I exclude CGW because I'm in Europe):

* Zendl adjustable rear sight for CZ TS
    * they mention that the front sight has to be 7.5mm (which I definitely don't have)
    * the same thing is mentioned (I think, I don't speak Czech, you can translate it in a browser like me) on the manufacturer's site: https://www.zendl.cz/Stavitelne-hledi-CZ-75-TS-d5.htm
* CZ TS/TS2 adjustable rear sight from CZ
     * this one almost exactly like the fixed factory sight (apart from the adjustment screws etc.) and it doesn't mention the front sight height
* CZ Tactical Sports adjustable rear sight from CZ
     * this one doesn't mention CZ TS2 specifically (but it's under TS/TS2 category in the shop)
     * it has this annotation about the front sight being 7mm
CZ TS/TS2 adjustable rear sight from Eemann Tech
    * I mention it last because it's currently out of stock in all the shops in my country
    * it does say 6-7mm front sight (don't know if mine is 6mm, it kinda looks more like 5.5mm when I measured it)

Okay, so I have a couple of questions for you guys, because maybe I'm not the first one struggling with this issue on CZ TS2:

1. Would any one of those sights I mentioned (or maybe there's one I don't know of) be compatible with the factory front sight on CZ TS2?
2. Is "recommended front sight height" something that has to be obeyed?
    * I mean - what if I go for a rear sight that "requires" a 7mm tall front sight but mine is 5.5mm? Would it be impossible to sight in?
3. Just out of curiosity: does anyone know what is the height of the front sight on CZ TS2 (base model, I don't know if the RG/DB/Orange have different ones or not)

Thanks in advance!

I don't own a TS2 so I can't confirm sight height but most all CZ's come with a 5.5mm front sight height.

The CZUB fully adjustable sight is what you want.

On my TSO I did run into an issue with getting it sighted in properly.  It wasn't a fully adjustable but did have elevation adjustment.  I was able to remove the rear blade and remove material from the bottom to allow for more elevation adjustment.

I wouldn't worry too much about installing a front sight, it is very easy even if you have to drill it.  Dawson Precision sights (you will have to go through a distributor) sell a wide variety of front sights that all come predrilled and ready to install.  I assume since you are shooting bullseye you may want to increase the width of the front sight to provide less error in the sight picture (width of light around front sight post)?  Or eliminate the fiber optic and go with a flat black?  Worth looking into at least.  Your TS2 has a 0.085 deep dovetail on the front sight, same as a 75B.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Toby

That's what I think. The additional benefit is - it looks so much better than those 3rd party sights. I asked both CZ support and the eshop.czub.cz support about this, waiting for a reply. If it is in fact compatible, I'll definitely order that one directly from CZ. I just hope it's really "fully adjustable", not just for elevation (I was under a false impression that while TS2 Racing Green is adjustable only for elevation, the Deep Bronze and Orange are fully adjustable - they are not). But as the fully adjustable option is available from the CZ Configurator, I think that's the one.

I'm also curious, because I think that the front sight on TS2 Racing Green and Deep Bronze (and probably Orange) is actually taller than the one on the basic model. Cannot confirm that, but I've seen some YT videos and they seem a lil' bit taller. And if so, maybe it is because those models are in fact adjustable for windage, so they use a different front sight. But maybe that's just my eyes.

I couldn't find a manual (or info in the description) so I'm not sure, but for example Eemann Tech sells their front sight pre-drilled and they still require drilling -> https://b2b.eemann.tech/et-cz-75/1149-1879-eemann-tech-front-sight-for-cz-75-cz-shadow-2-checkered-steel.html#/412-height-65_mm. They even show it on their videos on YT. Gonna try to find more info on Dawson Precision sights. It's really silly, I wanna avoid drilling because - I don't even have a drill (I know, I know).

Anyway, if there's an option for installing adjustable rear without changing out the front, that's the option for me.

That is true, but with the current factory setup that I have, the gaps between the front sight and the rear are really minimal. They are fine for me. Plus, the front sight is serrated. The only thing I'd change would be the fiber optic width, maybe.

I have a TS2 blue and I actually used a fully adjustable rear sight that came off one of my Springfield 1911s. I also like to shoot Bullseye and have had no problem using the original front sight. Also before you go buy a new front sight to get the larger diameter try putting in a new FO and make the bulb (I think that's what it's called) larger when you melt it.

Yeah, I'd actually go the other way - I'd rather make the dol itself smaller. The front sight blade width doesn't bother me, there's not much space, at least for me, so I'd rather not change it.

I've installed over a half a dozen Dawson front sights, they do not require drilling.  They are the same front sights that CGW sells on his website and you can see the cut out along the bottom of the sight on his images.  The only thing I'd recommend is a spare roll pin, sometimes the original gets damaged and doesn't like to be reinstalled.

Oh, that's really good. Gonna see if those sights are available through my local distributors.

I've also contacted a particular gun parts shop in my country - top notch when customer support/parts availability is considered. They answered that they use and install Zendl sight that I've linked without any issues with 6mm front sight on CZ TS. Seing as mine is 5.5mm, it shouldn't make the rear sight "unzeroable" if that's only 0.5mm. So that's another option to consider.

Just a quick follow up.

I went and bought this rear sight. After a painful installation process (factory one can be pushed using just fingers) I took it to the range and sighted it in (6 o'clock position).

As a bullseye shooter (nothing serious, but sight alignment and accuracy probably matter more to me than practical shooters), I can confirm that it works. Absouletly no need for a new front sight. I'm happy because that's what I wanted to avoid. My accuracy/precision both increased - it's easier to aim at the bottom (no way to know precisely where the middle of the target is at 25m or 50m). So, technically, I can say to other people that want to change out their rear sight, that the front sight swap is not always necessary.

Eemann Tech sells only whole sale for dillers. it's more simple to buy here:https://www.ipscstore.com/en/cz-shadow-2-sights/10186-419029-eemann-tech-adjustable-sights-set-for-cz-shadow.html#/28-diameter-1_mm

I believe front sight height for a CZ TS is 7.5 mm.
