CZ-550 American

Greetings to all the folks familiar with CZ rifles...
and perhaps one of you could help me.
Last month I purchased a new CZ-550 American
in 6.5 mmX 55 SE.....the craftmanship is excellent,
1" groups at all times...very happy about the rifle.
But, I have a problem with my eye relief. I need to
bring my scope back another inch or two.
I have tried calling all mounts & rings manufacturers
and dealers to see if they have extension rings but once
you mention CZ, that's the end of the conversation.
Even called CZ-USA, and some expert there suggested
I should cut the shoulder stock an inch or two...
(Ain't that a bright solution)
This is a problem I also found in Ruger rifles, but at least
extension rings for Rugers.
Will appreciate any info you may have to solve the
problem

Find a scope w/ more space between the turret and objective bell taper, use a lower powered scope, or simply adapt and overcome.

Thanks for the advise.
Just found a South African manufacturer of bases
and rings Lynx Optics....have a great selection
of these products for CZ and most European rifles.
Also extension rings in regular, medium & high.
Problem solved.

Try B-Square, they are Lynx US reps.
My extended bases are great, very , very heavy duty
and great to comfort any eye relief problems with CZ
rifles. I'm extremely pleased with the product.
Suggest you look at the Lynx Optics web site, pick a
model and then touch bases w/ B Square to confirm
the model you choose.

I'm thinking about the 6.5 Swede, and would like your thoughts about this cartridge compared to the .243.  I'll mostly use the rifle for targets, plinking, and medium game in the Southeast US.  I'm looking for the more accurate of the cartridge in the 100-250 yd range.  You thoughts appreciated!

Plinker....I have good news for you. After finding the
right mount & rings, calibrated the scope , etc......
I fired 30 rounds (6 groups of 5 shots)
and to my surprise all the groups were less than 1"
at 100 meters (328 feet). Actually 3 of the 6 groups
were 3/4". Of course, I had the trigger set to a crispy 2 Lbs....since I never use the set trigger.

This is about all I can tell you (as personal experience }with this fine caliber...since all my life I have reloaded. hunted and used w/ .30-06, .270 WCF, .243
and .25-06 REM.....(that's it and without regrets..!!)
but this 6.5 mm Swede is very, very accurate.
Felt recoil was very pleasant to my shoulder pocket.... much less than a .270 WCF.

The ammo I used was Sellier & Bellot 131 grs.
Ammo can be purchased from Cabelas for around $12.oo
per box of 20 and they are box primed if you enjoy reloading.

Thanks for your response.  I'll take your advice and go with the 6.5 x 55.   I'll be looking for a 3-9x40 scope, have my eyes on the Burris Fullfield II.  Any other suggestions for a scope in the $200-250 range?

Plinker....I don't think you will regret it, specially on the
felt recoil.

As for your $200-$250 budget, Burris is V.G. .Also
check the Leupold Vari X-II 3-9x40 which should be
around that price range.

(I have a couple of Meopta.....but now that consumers
know how good they are, prices are very high...not to mention devaluation of dollar v/s euro.)

i read your comments on your 550American. in 6.5 -- i tried to purchase a 550FS in 6.5 but there backed up 2 months. what can you tell me about the stock quality (American Walnut??) - i have a 527 which is Turkish Walnut and i love the figuring in the wood. would i be disapointed with a 550 American. also that 24in brl. would need to be cut to 22in.

Hi Ray.....
Going back to my CZ550 American in 6.5 x 55mmSE, I have shot the rifle in three ocassions since my first report. I'm having the bolt & magazine follower jeweled and polish all contact points of the bolt.....since I want to keep it forever.
What a great rifle & caliber combination....!!!

Now, the wood is nice but nothing fancy. Is a plain walnut with a clean grain. I will like to replace it with a fancy wood, but nowdays those stocks cost twice as much as the rifle.
Will leave that for the future.

The FS seems to be a nice rifle (or carbine) with the classical european lines and can't tell you much about it....but with  the standard CZ quality, you can't miss. Be patient and wait for your FS. That way you will enjoy it more when it arrives.....!!!
