Hello.  I have the BRNO large magnum action and am completely satisfied with it.  It's a .375 H&H.

Best.

In an earlier post I mentioned that these guns were made like tanks(heavy-duty), I'm afraid I scared potential buyers off. Thinking that if they have to carry a transmission on their back while hunting they might as well go plain Jane: CZ-550.
The added weight for the Brno ZKK-602 or CZ-550 Mag. is minimal, just addind stability when shooting offhand plus the added advantage of extra ammo in hinged-magazine.
Sad to hear no one is tempted towards the .300 Win. Mag..A plain straight(classic)stock exist(cost less than other versions to boot)that makes these rifle a bargain. To bad they don't mfgr. these in .338.

When buying the L.P.A. sighted version, take the time to verify that the screws holding the rear sight to the barrel are 6-48 screws or 8-40(and not 4-48: to easy to break-off)if not have a smith install proper size. Most mfgr. install 4-48 or 4-40 screws so (my assumption)CZ did the same.

All the best,
---Fred---

Oh, Man, I cant talk about CZ actions, but my 375 on a ZKK 602 action with a BRNO barrel can turn in 14 mm (centre-to-centre) groups with the right components.

(unfortunately, this is one choosy lady, and she don't perduce her best for any load) Alright, I overdid it with the pseudo-hillbilly stuff, but this is a choosy rifle, but she delivers.

Bigrich.

Hi Fred,  I first learned about them reading Jeff Cooper's book-the chapter on "baby" his 460 G & A mag built on a 602.  John Ricks is building me a 450 Dakota on the CZ 550 Mag action.  I'll let you know when I shoot it-probably in December.

While having your rifle built you should also look into glass-bedding action, using pillars and putting reinforcement thru stock (special gunsmithing bolts). You can free-float barrel. As all these will spare you the cost of a new stock(due to heavy-recoil) and add CONSTANT precision to your shooting.

The best is just getting better.

Thats almost exactly what John advised so must be good advice.  Thanks.  I'm having the actions glass bedded, bbls floated, and triggers cleaned up on my two little 527 projects.  My oldest son has a 550 in 6.5 X 55 that he received for Christmas.  He was getting 2 inch groups out of the box.  After he glassed and floated groups are consistantly under an inch.  Of course all the reenforcement is not neccessary for these small calibers.  These are great rifles for the money.  I want one in some short 338 next.  Keep your powder dry.

Very pleased. Top accuracy and good hold.

I was wondering if there are interchangable front sights, I reload and my reduced deer loads strike high. Based upon my observations this is due to the varience in barrel oscillations from factory performing loads. Other than the high impact these loads keep a tight group.

I want to keep the iron sights as the system of choice.

The front sight are intergeable(but unaware of CZ's variety), if I'm not mistaking these are called catapillar front sights and are available in a variety of hight thru Cape Outfitters in the U.S.(they have a web-site).

just like to say Iove the CZ 550 magnums I bought a .416 Rigby & I have a .375 on lay away. I would like to add a .458 win mag to ream out to a lott as well one day. And a 9.3x62 beacuse I do not have a cz in the normal sized action yet only the magnums and my little 527 hornet. I also need a cz in 6.5x55.

I also have a 602 that has been converted to a .585 Nyati. So all in all I am a CZ convert

Fred,

your right about the poor finish/quality from other manufactueres and I like the modern mauser action of the cz's. My mate and I ordered 9.3x62's today, I opted for the American styling why my friend opted for the battue style because "it's different". I think the American has beutiful clean lines and I feel it will be more versatile than the battue. But each to there own I suppose. I amthinking of topping my 9.3x62 with a 2-7x33 leupold, I thought about the 1-4 but sometimes I feel a little more magnification is handy, I don't know I am still stuck on this one. The 2-7 was on my .416 CZ but a .416 just screams for a straight tubed scope. Then it was going to go on the .375 but really that  screams for a straight tube as well, and part of me feels the little 9.3 needs a straight tube as well !!

Sorry for all my rambling on Fred, I just love my CZ's and everyone else gets sick of hearing about them !!

My gundealer said "winchester Australia" whom handles CZ firearms in Australia said it will take 6 months to get our CZ 9.3x62's in to the country. They only import 30/06, .308 etc. none of the odd ball stuff.

You have a good holiday to Fred.

Just read a post that said a 555 magnum could do without the forend barrel bolt if a second cross bolt were added. Would this improve accuracy significantly (cal. is 375 H&H)? I just finished inletting a blank and have already drilled the forend bolt hole. Could easily plug the hole and cover it with checkering if it's worthwhile.

I've also got other mod.s planned such as:

1. smooth action: fairly rough and sloppy out of the box
2. shorten barrel 1"
3. add barrel band swivel
4. install Warne scope mounts

Any comments or advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

TR

Idealy 2 cross-bolt should be added(same principal as any hard kicking Mauser):One in the rear of the action recoil (front) lug & another in the rear of the action recoil (rear) lug. An addition of a few cross-pins in the webbing area. This will increase life span of your stock by reinforcing it & give it more rigidity. As to be able to see what I mean: take any gun magazine(periodical) and examples will abound.

Don't forget to polish feed-ramp with jeweller's rouge. Sounds like you're making a swell rifle.

Keep up the good work,
Wishing you the best New Year!
Fred
